Asus, the global tech giant is in the process of evaluation of setting up a manufacturing facility in India these days. The 'Make In India' campaign of the Indian Government seems to have garnered quite a lot of attention from OEMs as a lot of companies are considering manufacturing their products in India these days.

Asus is currently in the process of hiring a consultancy firm which will evaluate the whole setup process for the company for India. "With the new government policies, we do see some benefits of manufacturing devices in India," is what was told by Peter Chang, Country Manager , Asus India to Economic Times.

The Taiwanese manufacturer is known for launching value-for-money devices and its Zenfone lineup has been quite successful in the country. The second generation Zenfones will launch on April 23rd in India. If the company goes ahead with manufacturing of the devices in the country, it can achieve lower costs which would in turn help it grab a bigger share of the smartphone market in the country.

The move from Asus comes after the recently announced budget of 2015-16 made importing of handsets costlier in the country. It may also consider setting up a R&D facility in India. Currently, its R&D facilities are present only in Taiwan and China. Indian manufacturers like Micromax, Lava and Karbonn are already in the process of evaluating setting up their own facilities in the country.

Asus is hoping to get more than half of its Indian revenue from its smartphone business in future. Let us wait and watch how it all pans out.
