Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) have just announced the GSM Subscriber base details for June 2010 for the complete list click here .
It comes as no surprise to see an addition of 12.25 million subscribers, moving the total base from 427 to 440 million GSM subscribers.
While this does not include the Reliance GSM base (same not submitted to COAI) or Tata Docomo base (same submitted to AUSPI), the data shows a healthy growth rate across most operators:
While the biggest gainers have been Etisalat DB, Videocon and Uninor at 80%, 39% and 20% respetively (see data above), the market shares of the various operators have moved positively too – Airtel, Vodafone and Idea Cellular gained 30 lac, 27.13 lac and 21.59 lac customers respectively.
However, in spite of this game, BSNL have beaten IDEA to move up from 4th slot (May 2010) to the 3rd slot (June 2010). BSNL’s base increased from 65.80 million to 66.89 million last month. The details of the gross subscriber additions, as reported by the individual operators to COAI, are detailed below.

idea 68> is higher than BSNL 66>……
Now it’s time for tata to come over BSNL…
Selim July 18, 2010 at 10:43 pm
@duane
I guess 68 mil>66mil so obviously Idea has more subscribers than BSNL.
Kaushik Roy July 18, 2010 at 9:31 pm
@dUAnE
IDEA is No 3 and BSNL is No 4
isnt it ?
Jitendra Indave July 18, 2010 at 8:10 pm
Point should be noted
velu July 18, 2010 at 8:05 pm
coverage is very important issue. new operators like docommo reliance uninor etc does not have proper coverage. Even IDEA and Videocan yet to cover the tourist spot Ooty in TN.
dUAnE July 18, 2010 at 7:44 pm
@IDRIS
I have clearly mentioned in the article “BSNL’s base increased from 65.80 million to 66.89 million last month.” Also in the picture I have shown BSNL base @ 66,887,839 and IDEA base @ 68,886,539 – so isnt it obvious BSNL has more customers?
Jitendra Indave July 18, 2010 at 7:30 pm
Can’t say yaar, now wards some new players have entered in the war field who knows perhaps one of them gona be the best one
Tippu July 18, 2010 at 6:52 pm

No there is an error as BSNL is still on Spot 4 for the monthly addition as well as total subscriber
bharathkumara July 18, 2010 at 2:29 pm
near can happen as no.1 is vodafone, same as wish the bsnl or idea, here also i think, bsnl have 3g that why they are growing,
Kaushik Roy July 18, 2010 at 2:06 pm
that will never happen in India
Webly Gomes July 18, 2010 at 1:35 pm
MNP is going to affect the rankings of players providing poor services. No doubt, suscribers base will touch the skies. But, it’s MNP will have a last laugh once introduced in India.
We will see operators ‘run for money’
SAYANTAN SAHA July 18, 2010 at 1:26 pm
waiting for the day when vodafone will secure 1st position.
Nikhil July 18, 2010 at 1:14 pm

It is better to Improve the quality of services as comapred to quantity of subscribers because these days simcards are used as USE n Throw way if We buy A SIM it will contain some free beies and a good Talktime for free peolple use Talktime and frebeeies and throw the card away..then get another…
Selim July 18, 2010 at 12:19 pm
It is showing Idea is at 68 million , where as BSNL is at 66 million. So how is BSNL able to regain the 3 rd spot??….Either the figures are wrong or BSNL is still at 4th spot.
