Pan India 3G mobile service operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) received very good response on its Online Mobile Number Reservation initiative called as “Choose your Mobile Number” scheme and the sale of prepaid mobile connections under this scheme has crossed 1,20,000 just within a month in one circle.
In November first week, BSNL introduced “Choose your Mobile Number” Portal (under its AP circle website) for Andhra Pradesh circle as we reported earlier on TelecomTalk and till 17 December 2011 prepaid mobile connection (GSM/3G) sales under this scheme has crossed 1.2 Lakh in Andhra Pradesh circle.
Mr. RK Upadhyay CMD, BSNL said “Enthused by the success of the Choose Your Mobile Number scheme in Andhra Pradesh telecom circle, We have decided to launch the scheme all over the country and we expect that the scheme will attract more than 20 lakh new GSM subscribers.”
BSNL’s Choose Your Mobile Number Online scheme is launched on Pan India basis and available for its prospective mobile customers across all telecom circles as earlier we shared on 15th December.

Great effort… But just like every other effort planned by the Public Sector.. it falls short in a few months… Its like the enthusiasm dies out or something…
BSNL has been offering this service for about 6 months now.. and are yet to update the series of numbers. For eg. Kerala was offered the series starting with 8547.. Only about 50 numbers remain in the series… 6 months have passed and yet no new series have been allotted…

bsnl is very good public service…
Kaushik February 16, 2012 at 8:48 am
Yesterday I procured 2 numbers via this scheme. The only big problem is, all local exchanges don’t deal mobile services, the main CSCs are at an average of 5 kms distance. And worse enough, they give “96 hours” time to get the number. I missed out on Friday, then Saturday/Sunday was holiday so I lost 72 hours over there. They should give times in terms of “business days”.

@kunal: vo tho pagal hey, sab time pvt optr ke peeche, syda moeny hey let him spend and fill pvt optr pockets. one thing is correct bsnl marketing dept is very weak, ie y its cheapest services nobody not knowing & switch over to other optrs,
all r requested to go & visit http://www.bsnl.co.in & click to the link of diff units appropriate to their circles, there u can see a no. of attractive offers just waiting for you, no pvt operator can offer this attractive offers !!!
for e.g in kerala circle: Mithru plan: suppose 5 friends using pvt optr mobile & switch to bsnl by mnp & choosing Mithru plan! they can avaail a fabulous offer of 10 paise per minute to each others mobile life time; 200 sms free/month for 5 months; 200 mb internet free for 5 months & increased validity just by top up of small amounts start from rs.10: anybody in India can offer this much ? only BSNL !!!

Coverage of BSNL is better in Rural for 2G but 3G coverage is limited in Imphal only as of present. The scheme ‘choose your mobile number on line’ if launched on demand here in 7 NE states BSNL will be benefitted alots.
Zenthui Henry Kamei December 22, 2011 at 6:55 pm

Debopratim Roy December 21, 2011 at 11:15 pm
F*** Vodafone..Their network has become such a shit that often one gets eclipsed in areas like Rabindra Sadan,Tollygunge,Park Street etc. This is happening with corporate numbers. Only inviting people to go for MNP would backfire..They would never get themselves corrected. Isse better hai BSNL..They do provide total coverage inside metro stations wherein the dog(Vodafone) fails to reach..Total crap vodafone..Roaming coverage is also below standard!!
Anant December 21, 2011 at 11:07 pm
1.2 lakh beche hai, isse kai guna jyada chor ke jayenge. MAHA-GHATIYA NETWORK. Tower k niche khade ho jao tab bhi ranje na aaye. Hamesha kuch na kuch problem rehti hai isme. Isko toh band kar ke Sabji bechni suru karni chahiye. Tower sar par laga kar chalo tab bhi network na aaye iska. Maha ghatiya company. Kisi kaam ki nahi hai. Saare kaamchor bhare hue hain. DIsgusting..
Think why this occures ???? can government and politicians are ready to work BSNL ???? and their employees in the intrest of our Nation ????? first ask your self without any prejudice and then think about BSNL….. infrastructure of Telecom was developed from our own money i.e. from our country’s money only.so first of all think on right way and then think of BSNL… thanx…
sudheer December 21, 2011 at 9:20 pm
@Emad; its not single bsnl story;u go any Govt offices u hve been treated more worse than this!now most of the bsnl staff realised whats happening outside market, but some lazy people what we will do ? only one solution privatise its shares & with Govt only 26% shares.@rajesh
sudheer December 21, 2011 at 9:12 pm
I thin Sri.Kunal is a media writer for private tele.cos; aap jo likha sub khalath hey, ye sab lighne keliye kithna hey aap ka masik extra income !!!
bsnl hey tho sub se cheap mobile co. & nobody can challenege its coverage & competitive rates & all u remember that after its mobile launching only escotel/idea/airtel/bpl etc redcued their outgoing rate from Rs.17 /minute to a reduced rate !!!
muthu December 21, 2011 at 8:56 pm
BSNL IS THE BEST NETWORK. NO ONE LEADS…..
sudheer December 21, 2011 at 8:54 pm
see the same incoming call charges & enhanced out going call rate may soon again begin in our India as BSNL going on loss & disappear in Indian telecom market by wrong Govt policies, high political influence to weaken this psu & laziness of its employees !!!
Saptarshi Roy December 21, 2011 at 8:34 pm
@Prithvi
Slight correction, sir. I had a BSNL prepaid (Excel) subscription way back in 2002 and I remember paying for incoming calls – Rs. 2.40 per minute which was reduced to Rs. 1.20 per minute and then from April 1st, 2003 they stopped charging for incoming. Reliance CDMA rocked then – GSM didn’t even have EDGE and I remember, those were the days.
syk December 21, 2011 at 8:28 pm
my dear kunal, you are obsolutly correct.pls stick to ur choise of good private mobile companies & get ur pocket empty in slow poison fashion. its not ur fault. ppl these days believe in private companies where they pay lot more & get little service . however u will not like a transparent government company where every penny they charge is clearly mentioned with no hidden charge. if u have patience you can get good servioce from BSNL .I think u might be vexed with few ppl in BSNL who dint address ur problem .but its wrong to blame BSNL as a whole.
Prithvi December 21, 2011 at 7:57 pm
You might also remember that prior to BSNL mobile service one had to shed money for incoming calls but the day BSNL entered the mob. telephony the public started getting the service at cheaper rates..Prithvi Fatehabad
Prithvi December 21, 2011 at 7:52 pm
@Emad
Shri Kunal ji,there may be deficiencies in BSNL networkalso but your comments are very very far from reality..Prithvi
Partha December 21, 2011 at 6:45 pm
Check Reliance and Airtell mobile in certain states like Assam and West Bengal and you will feel that BSNL is far better option than atleast Relince.Vodafone is a big thief. They will themselves put ring back tone in your mobile but if asked why, their plain reply is that you yourself have asked for this ring back tone.
????? December 21, 2011 at 6:44 pm
BSNL IS BEST AND CHEAPEST . WELL DONE!
Emad December 21, 2011 at 3:11 pm
LOL ha ha ha yaar tu toh phenti ho gaya
Emad December 21, 2011 at 2:58 pm
All good numbers are gone just in a go
now wait 90 days you will see them out of BSNL pond
they divorce BSNL after getting fancy number
MNP is going to br too painful for bsnl in next days
you can imagine the pain of bsnl when she see going all her fancy numbers to another operators
Belgundi S N December 21, 2011 at 2:23 pm
Out of 2,87,749 employees recruited by the Post & Telegraph Department, now working in BSNL, about 53 % of the workforce in BSNL i.e. 1,52,506 are beyond 50 years of age. They are not aware of the latest technology in the telecom sector.
That is the reason the sam Pitroda committee has recommended VRS to such employees. But the Government is slow on this count.
Nix December 21, 2011 at 9:30 am
Well these numbers are EXPIRED ones , i bought the sim yesterday and it’s not active yet . I’m getting SIM CARD REGISTRATION FAILED error . I called up cc to enquire bout activation period , and she said “SIR THIS SIM WAS EXPIRED ON 9-11-2011 ,contact the bsnl office where you bought the sim from ” . LOL

ssthanu December 20, 2011 at 9:13 am
@Godwin AG
You can ask them to book the connection under “CYMN” link.
You have to provide the PIN received and your mobile in which pin received. rest all process same as new prepaid sim issue.
Yukthi December 20, 2011 at 12:12 am
Sounds not good…….!! all r running behind fancy numbers and after activating connection i hope they will surely use the possobilities of MNP…..!! ha ha.
No good offers…. atleast BSNl have to improve its bandbidth for wired broadband services…..
Godwin AG December 19, 2011 at 10:09 pm
On Friday, the 16th itself, I choose a mobile number from the website and contacted the BSNL customer service centre at Trichur, Kerala today morning (before the stipulated 72 hours). The office executives were not at all aware of such scheme, and they asked to come after 2-3 days to check if they got any information. When I asked about the 72 hour limit, they told that any such offer will be extended atleast for 7 days, God knows.
Avishek Ghosh December 19, 2011 at 9:43 pm
Almost same here in Midnapur BSNL Head office(under Kharagpur Telecom District,West Bengal)….almost same reply from bsnl customer executives….they said that there is no such plan exists…& the web portal of no. choosing is false…..
God save bsnl…….
Rajeev R December 19, 2011 at 8:05 pm
Mr Aks from WestBengal, you should have approached your nearest BSNL Customer Service Centre or its channel partner. JTOs in exchanges are technical staff and not marketing/ sales persons, though they do some sales and marketing at times.
Ashu December 19, 2011 at 7:04 pm
sahi baat kahi aapne……FUCK BSNL@kunal
Saptarshi Roy December 19, 2011 at 6:41 pm
@aks
I feel sorry to hear that. This is one of the reasons why I don’t approach them for Mobile/Broadband connections. Nobody likes to feel humiliated!
parashar Kumar December 19, 2011 at 5:20 pm
Good initiative by BSNL!
harman December 19, 2011 at 5:05 pm
absolutely correct.
but i feel other operators should also start this kind of service and they should also advertise more about getting Premium/Vanity numbers.
gaurav December 19, 2011 at 4:02 pm

Today i approach BSNL local exchange Burdwan (West Bengal) with my online reserved number. But they are not aware of this online mobile number auction. The reply i got is very funny. JTO told me how could they issue this number to me when they don’t know which district in West Bengal BSNL this number belongs. This i was not expecting From JTO. Disgusting BSNL employee
