2017 has been the year of bezel-less displays, with the likes of Samsung Galaxy S8 and the upcoming iPhone 8 competing to bring top notch edge-to-edge displays to the masses. Meanwhile, Xiaomi seems to have taken this trend of bezel-less display to entirely new heights.
A French designer named Phillippe Starck happened to post a teaser video on his Facebook page revealing the supposed design of Xiaomi’s Mi Mix 2 and it goes beyond what we expected. The handset seems to have a bezel-free display with just a tiny sliver of bezels to the side and a slim strip below the screen that houses the microphone.
In a bizarre fashion, not only does the bottom strip house the microphone but also comes with a selfie-camera, a one of its kind since all smartphones sport the selfie camera to the top of the device. This uncharacteristic placement of the front camera could be justified given the almost absent bezel design at the top.
From what we have seen in the short video, the phone looks gorgeous and has got all the Xiaomi fans excited. A few hours after this video surfaced online, noted leakster Benjamin Geskin tweeted what he claims is the product render of the Mi Mix 2 as well. The images from this second leak match up with the video, so it is safe to assume that this is indeed Xiaomi’s next ultra-flagship design.
The Chinese smartphone maker earlier introduced us to the Mi MIX device and dubbed it the ‘concept phone’. To recall, the phone features a 6.4-inch 2040 x 1080 pixels resolution display with a pixel density of 362 ppi. The Mi Mix is internally powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 chipset, shipped with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage that cannot be expanded.
As far as the cameras are concerned, the device sports a 16MP rear camera along with a 5MP front-facing secondary sensor of selfies and video calls. The handset runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and is backed by a sturdy 4,000mAh non-removable battery. Weighing in at 209 grams, the Mi Mix offers connectivity options such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, GPS/A-GPS, USG OTG, and supports 4G LTE connectivity.
