When it comes to rolling out Android updates, Xiaomi stands last on the list. Although the Chinese company is famous for rolling out major MIUI updates to its older smartphones, it just provides one Android iterative update to every smartphone. For example, the Redmi Note 7 Pro came out with Android 9 Pie-based MIUI 10 out of the box, and now, Xiaomi will roll out MIUI 11 based on Android Q this year and it will be the last iterative Android update to the smartphone. The phone will eventually receive other MIUI updates like MIUI 12, MIUI 13 and so on, but they all will be based on Android Q itself. This is the case with several popular Xiaomi smartphones like the Redmi Note 3, Redmi Note 4, Redmi Note 5 Pro and so on. Xiaomi has come out and revealed that 11 of its smartphones would receive Android Q update once it goes official to the public. Read on to know the full list of Xiaomi phones getting Android Q update.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Series to Get Android Q Update
Xiaomi confirmed that Xiaomi Mi 9, Xiaomi Mi 9 SE, Redmi K20 Pro, Xiaomi Mi 8, Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition, Xiaomi Mi 8 Screen Fingerprint Edition, Redmi K20, Xiaomi Mi Mix 3, Mi Mix 2S, Redmi Note 7 and Redmi Note 7 Pro smartphones would receive Android Q update. Notably, all these phones are either released in 2018 or 2019. The Xiaomi Mi 9, Redmi K20 and Redmi Note 7 series was launched in 2019, while the devices like Xiaomi Mi 8 series, Mi Mix 3, Mi Mix 2S were launched in 2018. Almost all these phones ran Android 9 Pie out of the box, while the likes of Mi 8 series, Mi Mix 2S, Mi Mix 3 came with Android 8.1 Oreo-based MIUI 10.
Xiaomi confirmed this news via MIUI Forums. Several Xiaomi smartphones launched in 2019 and 2018 like the Redmi Y3, Redmi 7 series, Redmi Note 6 Pro and so on are missing on the list. But Xiaomi has the track record of delivering at least one iterative Android update to every smartphone, so hopefully, all the Xiaomi phones which arrived with Android 9 Pie will get Android Q update sometime later this year or early next year.
Xiaomi also confirmed that the flagship phones out of the 11 devices mentioned above would get the Android Q update by Q4 2019, while the mid-range Redmi K20, Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 series will receive it in Q1 2020.
Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5G and Mi 9 are Part of Android Q Beta Programme
In other news, Xiaomi already released the Android Q Beta 3 update to two smartphones- the Mi Mix 3 5G and the Xiaomi Mi 9. These phones are currently eligible for Android Q Beta update alongside other phones like OnePlus 7 Pro, OnePlus 7, OnePlus 6T, OnePlus 6, Asus Zenfone 5Z, Nokia 8.1, Vivo NEX S and so on. So the Mi Mix 3 5G and Mi 9 will get the Android Q update ahead of any other Xiaomi phone since they're already part of the beta programme.
As seen with older Xiaomi phones, Xiaomi will add MIUI skin on top of Android with several customisations. Also, other Xiaomi phones like the Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite will get Android Q update as well. The Xiaomi Mi A1 is also said to receive the update, but it will be interesting to see when the company rolls it out.
