Xiaomi Teases a 32MP Selfie Camera Redmi Phone Launch in India, Could Be the Redmi Y3

Xiaomi launches at least three to four smartphones every quarter in India. During Q1 2019, we saw the company launching Redmi Note 7, Note 7 Pro and Redmi Go handsets, and we're now into Q2 2019, which means new launches from Xiaomi. Today, Xiaomi India Managing Director, Manu Kumar Jain, tweeted that he got hands on an upcoming Redmi phone which will boast of a 32MP selfie camera. Also, in the same tweet, he also revealed that the phone would most likely be the Redmi Y3, coming as a successor to the Redmi Y2. To recall, Xiaomi launched the Redmi Y2 back in June 2018 at a starting price of Rs 9,999. The Redmi Y series remained as a de-facto option for users looking for a selfie camera phone under Rs 10,000, but that has changed since the recent price cut of Realme U1 which is now available at a starting price of Rs 9,999. For the unaware, the Realme U1 has a 25MP selfie camera and Xiaomi will most likely price the Redmi Y3 below Rs 10,000 to take on the former.

Xiaomi Redmi Y3 With 32MP Selfie Camera Launching Soon

Very recently, we have reported that Xiaomi is working on the Redmi Y3 for a while now. In fact, the Redmi Y3's model number (M1810F6LH) was also leaked online a few weeks back. In other news, Xiaomi is said to launch the Redmi Y3 as Redmi 7 Pro in some markets. Going by these hints, here's what we can expect from the Redmi Y3: a Full HD+ display, Snapdragon 632 SoC because it's found on the Redmi 7 series as well and dual rear cameras on par with the Redmi Note 7. And of course, on the front, we'll have the 32MP selfie camera.

Last year, the Redmi Y2 arrived with an HD+ display which might change this year as Xiaomi is looking to stay ahead of the competition. It was powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC, so the Redmi Y3 will most likely have the Snapdragon 632 SoC. We may see the same dual rear cameras of 12MP+2MP present on the Redmi Note 7 on the Redmi Y3 as well. Last year's Redmi Y2 disappointed when it came to battery life as it had a smaller 3000mAh unit; Hopefully, Xiaomi includes a bigger battery unit this year on the Redmi Y3. And yes, the phone should look and feel better like the Redmi Note 7 series.

Xiaomi Redmi Y3: Expected Pricing and Launch Date

At the moment, Xiaomi did not reveal any news about the official launch date of the Redmi Y3. But with the company started teasing the handset, the launch will likely take place in the next two weeks. As for the pricing, we expected the Redmi Y3 to start at Rs 9,999 like the Redmi Y2 and Redmi Note 7. The phone will take on the Realme U1 which is available at a starting price of Rs 9,999 and offers 25MP selfie camera, MediaTek Helio P70 chipset.
