Lately, Xiaomi has been on the tiptoes for launching the latest Android update for its smartphone. There was a time when companies were shying away from releasing quick Android updates for their devices, however, now Xiaomi seems to be living up to the people’s expectations by promising quick updates with the latest Android version. With that being said, Xiaomi has also now announced the models of the smartphones which will be receiving the Android Oreo and Android 9 Pie update in the Q4 this year. However, the thing that some users might not like is that only the latest models by Xiaomi will be getting the Android 9 Pie update.

Although Xiaomi has phones which are still running on Android Nougat, there is also no lack of models in Xiaomi’s portfolio which are running Android Oreo. Xiaomi phones like Xiaomi Mi 5, Mi 5s, Mi 5s Plus, Mi 6, Mi Mix, Mi Mix 2, Mi Note 2, Note 3 all come with Android 8.0 or Android 8.1 Oreo. Additionally, there are also phones by Xiaomi which boot the beta version of the MIUI 10 software.

Among the devices which are still running on Android Nougat, we have Redmi Note 5, Redmi 5A, Redmi 5 Plus, and the Redmi 5X. Xiaomi has announced that it would be pushing the Android Oreo update for these phones in the fourth quarter. However, it is likely that these phones would also receive a beta version update before the stable build, so it is possible that the users of these models will have to wait a few weeks before they get to experience Android Oreo in its full form. The expected date for the release of updates for these phones will most likely be pushed to December.

Similar to the Android Oreo update, there are a few devices in the Xiaomi line-up which will be receiving the Android Pie update in the fourth quarter. The name of the devices which will receive the Android Pie update in Q4 includes the Mi 8 Screen Fingerprint edition, Mi 8 SE, and the newly launched Mi Mix 3.

More phones from Xiaomi like Mi Mix 2s, Mi 8, and the Mi 8 Explorer Edition are also being tested with the latest Android version, and the update has probably been released for these devices in some regions. It’s worth noting that the high end and newly released Xiaomi devices will likely receive Android updates for the coming two years, whereas the other phones will limit to receiving Android Oreo or Android Pie update only.

Other phones like Xiaomi Mi A2 which come with Android One certification and sport a stock Android experience will receive Android updates much earlier as compared to the other smartphones which boot MIUI. These phones will also get monthly security patches as well.
