Yes, it's happening. The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S will be the first smartphone with Snapdragon 845 SoC according to new firmware files obtained by a senior member at XDA Forums- duraaraa (@FunkyHuawei). As per the firmware files, they found out that the Mix 2S will have a 3400mAh battery unit inside, same as last year's Xiaomi Mi Mix 2. Furthermore, the report added that the phone would arrive with Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box. But the launch date of the phone is a mystery at the moment. It might come out at the Mobile World Congress event, even though some reports touting before MWC release in China.
Earlier rumours suggested the codename of the Mi Mix 2S as polaris, and the firmware files of Polaris has now leaked. As per the firmware, the phone will run Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box. So, it' safe to assume that Mix 2S will have Project Treble support. And lastly, the trademark bezel-less design will be retained as the polaris device will have an 18:9 aspect ratio display with 2160×1080 pixels resolution.
Furthermore, the report added that the Mi Mix 2S would come with Artificial Intelligence features for the camera, and there are some references to the same in the MIUI camera APK found in the firmware. The Mix 2S will come with Scene Recognition support to detect scenes such as doc (document), flower, food, sky, sunrise/sunset, cat, dog, green plants, night, snow, sea, autumn, candlelight, car, grass, maple leaves, succulent, building, city, cloud, overcast and backlight. This feature is similar to Huawei's AI-based scene recognition mode in the camera app.
Also, the sensor to be used in the Mix 2S is the flagship Sony’s IMX363 sensor as the firmware teardown revealed some references of the same. Other features such as the IR Blaster, Dual SIM support, LED flash will be present on the phone. Also, the camera will come other features such as automatic HDR, object tracking, etc. The report also added that the firmware file is massive and in the first phase, developers managed to find out these details of the Mix 2S.
Besides these details, we know the design of the Mi Mix 2S doesn't differ much when compared to that of Mi Mix 2, but the front-facing camera will be moved to top from the bottom resulting in better screen-to-body ratio. Also, we're expecting the Android 8.0 Oreo on the Mi Mix 2S will not be on MIUI 10, instead it will come on top of MIUI 9 itself.
