Xiaomi Mi A2 Likely to Reduce the Popularity of Nokia 7 Plus in India

Xiaomi is all set to launch the much waited Mi A2 in India on August 8. The phone which will be the successor to the Mi A1 will come with the Android One certification from Google. The device is also going to be one of the few by Xiaomi to sport a pure stock Android experience. The phone has also been launched globally in Spain alongside its other variant, Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite, a model which sadly won’t make its way to India. The Nokia 7 Plus is another phone by HMD Global which very highly resembles the specs of the Mi A2. With Xiaomi launching the phone in this week, the Nokia 7 Plus is undoubtedly going to face some competition from the Xiaomi phone. Both the devices are also part of Android One programme and offer pure stock Android experience. Below we have compared both the phones across all areas to see which one stands as a clear winner.

Xiaomi Mi A2 vs Nokia 7 Plus: Design and Display
The Xiaomi Mi A2 comes with an 18:9 aspect ratio screen with minimum bezel which lends it a modern look. The phone also comes with USB Type-C and has no headphone jack which might be a little bit disappointing for some buyers. Encased in a metal unibody is the 5.99-inch ‘full-screen’ Full HD+ display with 2160x1080p resolution and 403 PPI pixel density. The thickness of the device is a measly 7.3mm, and there is also the Gorilla Glass 5 for protection. The colour options for Mi A2 include – gold, blue and black.

The Nokia 7 Plus, on the other hand, is made out of a single block of Series 6000 aluminium with six layers ceramic coating making the phone feel like a premium gadget. There are also copper coloured accents on the edged adding to the aesthetics. The Nokia 7 Plus sports a 6-inch Full HD+ IPS display with an 18:9 aspect ratio as well. For protection, there is Gorilla Glass 3 on top, and the device is a tad bit bulkier than Mi A2 with the thickness measuring to be 7.9mm. One of the key features of the Nokia 7 Plus is its stellar design.

Xiaomi Mi A2 vs Nokia 7 Plus: Specifications
Both the devices, the Xiaomi Mi A2 and the Nokia 7 Plus come with the same Snapdragon 660 SoC. Notably, the latter was the phone which first debuted with the SD660 processor in India. Another similarity between the two phones is the stock Android experience along with Android One certification which means that both these phones are going to be free of any bloatware and they will also be eligible for the latest monthly security updates from Android including Android P and Android Q.

The phones differ a lot in the camera department with the Nokia 7 Plus sporting ZEISS Optics sensors which include -12MP primary sensor with f/1.75 lens and Dual Pixel autofocus, and a 13MP telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom. There’s a 16MP camera on the front for selfies. On the other hand, the Mi A2 comes with a 12MP sensor and a secondary 20MP sensor on the rear with both the cameras having a f/1.75 aperture. On the front also, there’s a 20MP shooter for selfies. The cameras support AI and ML-based features which notch up the quality of the shots taken on this phone.

The next difference is in the batteries of both the phones, the Nokia 7 Plus packs a 3800mAh battery while the Mi A2 comes with a much smaller 3000mAh battery. In our full review of the Nokia 7 Plus, we rated it as the best battery smartphone, which may not be changed even after the arrival of the Mi A2.

Xiaomi Mi A2 vs Nokia 7 Plus: Pricing
The Nokia 7 Plus retails for the price of Rs 25,999 in India and although the Xiaomi Mi A2’s price hasn’t been announced as of yet, the international pricing of the phone suggests that it might bear a price tag of around Rs 20,000. The phone costs 249 Euros (about Rs 20,071) for the entry-level 4GB RAM and 32GB storage variant and costs 349 Euros (roughly Rs 28,131) for the top-end 6GB RAM and 128GB storage variant. The middle variant with 4GB + 64GB storage retails for 279 Euros (roughly Rs 22,489), and this is going to be the device giving tough competition to the Nokia 7 Plus.

Xiaomi seems to be not launching the base variant of the Mi A2 in India. The 4GB+64GB variant of the A2 is expected to retail for Rs 18,999 in the country. The Mi A2 is already confirmed to be an Amazon Exclusive.

Can anyone confirm whether is a Netmonster bug or not. …. Sometimes It shows 3CA on my Nokia 7 Plus with Jio

Sandeep Bansal, Manipal

Nokia 7+ doesn’t have the modem supporting more than 2CA…

Maratha | Pune

The chipset supports 3CA. Check Qualcomm website.

Nikhil Mumbai-Pune

But it is not activated in Indian variant.

Sandeep Bansal, Manipal

But you need not buy the modem that supports 2CA, you can use a lower compatible modem…
The QC website says that SD660 has maximum support for 3CA, that means you can only add a modem at maximum supporting 3CA, but you are not forced to use the same, a lower one can be opted for…

Nikhil Mumbai-Pune

Indian version has 2CA only.

My oneplus 5t supports carrier aggregation 3CA ON JIO

Chetan Malhotra

@Biswadeep, Android P unlocks 3CA on supported device if hardware supports it… I have Pixel 2XL running Andoid P Beta and Net Monster supports 3CA post android P Beta. Looks like you have also downloaded P Beta on your device… Hence it is showing… THIS IS NOT BUG.

Kiran Fernandes | Goa

Good to know that Chetan, Net monster shows 3CA for the Realme 1. But according to gsmarena, Realme 1 supports just 2CA. Let’s hope it actually does, secretly xD

It’s sad that it’s already August and there’s no bootloader unlocking available for the Nokia 7 Plus. 😐

Nokia isn’t allowing that, look at the Nokia 6 (2017) forums, it’s just there for chit chat.

I’m not looking forward to a locked phone, no matter how tempting the Nokia X6 might be

Nikhil Mumbai-Pune

All the three phones,Oppo Realme 1,Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1, Redmi Note 5 Pro doesn’t support any kind of Ca.
