Although Mi 6 has been Xiaomi’s top-tier flagship phone for 2017, the Mi 5X offers its users most of the former’s features in a more affordable package. The Motorola Moto G5s Plus, on the other hand, is an upgraded version of the Moto G5 Plus. Both the smartphones are yet to hit the Indian markets and are expected to launch in the next 30 days.
With the imminent launch of both devices in international markets, we have whipped up a brief comparison on which smartphone is more likely to dominate post-launch.
Design and Display
The Mi 5X, nicknamed as the mini Mi 6, comes with a full metal unibody design – a stark departure from the Mi 6’s glass and metal body. Save for the rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, the Mi 5X sports an iPhone-esque design with its all-metal body and dual-camera setup. The device features a 5.5-inch display with Full-HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution.
The Moto G5s Plus has retained the all-metal unibody design of the G5 Plus, with visible antenna lines running along the rear of the smartphone. The device comes with the same design of fingerprint scanner on the front, and its biggest upgrade is most definitely the dual-camera setup – the first dual-camera feature in the Moto G lineup. Display-wise, the Moto G5s Plus sports a 5.5-inch display with Full-HD resolution.
Hardware
Under the hood, the Moto G5s Plus is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor, shipped with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory. It is also likely that the second variant of the phone with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage will be available in India. The storage can be further expanded via a microSD card.
As for the Mi 5X, the smartphone packs in a similar octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC alongside an Adreno 506 GPU for gaming needs. The chipset is clubbed with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage which can be expanded up to 128GB via a microSD card.
Software
On the software front, the Moto G5s Plus runs on the latest Android Nougat 7.1 and offers the customary connectivity options such as Wi-Fi, NFC, Bluetooth, GPS/A-GPS, and 4G LTE connectivity. The Xiaomi Mi 5X also comes with similar specs – running on the Android 7.1 Nougat – but the only catch is that the phone will ship with Xiaomi’s MIUI 9 out of the box. The MIUI 9 will make its debut with the Mi 5X and is expected bring in features like multi-window support, key Android Nougat nuggets, and more. Some people prefer stock Android, while some people like the feature-rich MIUI.

The Xiaomi Mi 5X comes with a dual camera combination as well, with the combination of two 12MP sensors – one with a wide-angle lens while the other one is a telephoto lens. Up front, the device features a 5MP camera for selfies and video calls. That said, the camera setup of the Xiaomi Mi 5X is same as the flagship Xiaomi Mi 6.
Battery and Pricing
The Xiaomi Mi 5X is backed by a 3,080mAh battery inside with 10W fast charging support whereas the Motto G5s Plus is fuelled by a 3,000mAh battery with Turbo Charge support.
