Xiaomi surprised everyone by rolling out MIUI 9 update to the five-year-old smartphone, the Mi 2. While the stable update is yet to make to the smartphone, Xiaomi has now confirmed that it's suspending the development for the Mi 2, along with five other smartphones.

MIUI-9

From November 15, 2017, Xiaomi has suspended the development of MIUI 9 for Mi 2/2S, Mi 4i, Redmi Note 4G, Redmi 2, Redmi 2 Prime, and Mi Note. That said, the MIUI Global Beta ROM 7.11.16 is the last beta update for the above devices. Back at the MIUI 9 launch event, Xiaomi said that there are more than 5 million users of Mi 2 and Mi 2S, which is the reason why the company considered releasing the MIUI 9 update.

However, do make a note that the MIUI 9 Global Stable ROM for the above six devices will be released gradually from December 2017 to January 2018, but there won't be any development when it comes to Global Beta ROM. The users of the above devices who have flashed the MIUI 9 Global Beta ROM won't receive any updates going forward. Also, Xiaomi will be guiding the users on Global Beta ROM to install the MIUI 9 Global Stable ROM safely.

The reasons behind Xiaomi suspending the development for these smartphones are the evaluation of release time of devices, number of active users, hardware performance, etc. Clearly, no smartphone vendor in the globe supports a five-year-old device. Manufacturers such as Lenovo doesn't even deliver a single major upgrade.

"However, to ensure the best performance of MIUI, we have to make a tough decision of suspending the update of 6 devices after a long-time discussion and evaluation about the release time of devices, active users, hardware performance, etc.," stated Xioami in an MIUI thread.

There are many Xiaomi Mi 4i smartphone users out there in the market, but sadly, Xiaomi is ending the support for the smartphone.

Currently, Xiaomi is in the process of rolling out MIUI 9 Global Beta ROM update to all its smartphones. Already, the brand has rolled out the update to smartphones such as Mi Mix 2, Redmi Note 4, Mi 5, Mi 6, Mi 5X, etc. And by the end of 2018, most of the Xiaomi smartphones released in recent times will receive the MIUI 9 Global Stable ROM, and in early 2018, all Xiaomi smartphones will receive the update.

At the moment, Xiaomi India is teasing something to launch in the coming days. While there's no info on what the company is going to launch, it's believed to be something related to the 'Make in India' digital scheme.
