Xiaomi, which is the number one smartphone brand in India, has officially become the first brand to officially claim the 64MP camera imaging technology for smartphones. The Chinese manufacturer has been teasing the launch of a 64MP camera smartphone for quite some time now, and we have known that Xiaomi definitely has kept this device in the making. Now, although the company has not launched the phone itself, it has undoubtedly exhibited the new 64MP phone camera technology at a global event held in Beijing, China. This has made Xiaomi the first company globally to showcase the 64MP mobile camera technology.
Xiaomi 64MP Camera Module Details
The new technology which Xiaomi has exhibited in this event is none other the Samsung ISOCELL Bright GW1 64MP sensor which has been making the rounds of the internet for quite some time now. With this, Xiaomi has also added that this 64MP sensor will be seen on Redmi phones in the Q4 of 2019. This gives us a solid hint that in the last quarter of 2019, Xiaomi is looking forward to launching a device which would come with the Samsung ISOCELL Bright GW1 64MP sensor. In some of the previous speculations, we have seen that people are thinking of this device as the Redmi Note 8, which has been due in the market now. So, it is entirely possible that we might get to see the 64MP sensor on the Redmi Note 8 only.
Detailing more about this new camera sensor, Xiaomi has said that the GW1 features smart ISO supported by Dual Conversion Gain (DCG) technology, which intelligently adjusts the ISO sensitivity based on ambient light intensity. It uses low ISO in high-brightness environments, and high ISO in the dark-light environments to achieve the best signal-to-noise ratio for the entire scene.
The smartphone brand has also revealed that the GW1 would render 64MP photos with a resolution of 9248 x 6936 pixels. The sensor would also support real-time hardware-supported high dynamic range (HDR) of up to 100-decibels (dB) that provides more vibrant hues. Compared to the dynamic range of a conventional image sensor, which is at around 60dB (while that of the human eye is typically considered to be about 120dB), the GW1 strives to provide true-to-life imagery.
Redmi Note 8 Likely to Come with 64MP Camera Sensor
Only a few days back, Xiaomi General Manager teased the Redmi Note 8 on Weibo. This hints that the Redmi Note 8 might not be that far and could be released soon. It has also been revealed that the 64MP sensor on the phone will come with pixel-merging Tetracell technology and a remosaic algorithm, and which will render 16MP images in low-light environments, with pixel binning technology to increase light. With all this being said, although the talks about the Redmi Note 8 could ask for a pinch of salt, we are now entirely sure about the 64MP camera technology which Xiaomi has with it.
