Xiaomi Announces 100W Wired Fast Charging Tech That Refills a 4000mAh Battery in 17 Minutes

Xiaomi's 100W fast charging solution is still the wired solution and it will take 17 minutes to charge a 4000mAh cell fully

Highlights
  • Xiaomi's 100W fast charging technology announced in China
  • Vivo currently has the fastest wired charging technology
  • Oppo and Realme already has smartphones with up to 65W fast charging technology

When it comes to fast charging technologies, BBK Electronics-owned Oppo, OnePlus and Vivo are leading the charge, beating the likes of Samsung, Xiaomi and Apple hands-on. At the Xiaomi Developer Conference in China, Xiaomi announced its super-fast charging technology that is capable of charging a 4000mAh cell in just 17 minutes. The 100W Super Charge Turbo charging technology from Xiaomi will take on Vivo’s 120W Super Flash Fast charging solution which the Chinese company introduced earlier this year. Xiaomi just announced the new fast-charging solution, but we may see the phones using said technology in early 2020 or mid-2020.

Xiaomi 120W Super Charge Turbo Technology Introduced

At the time when Xiaomi is focusing on launching camera-centric phones, BBK Electronics-owned companies- Vivo, Oppo, Realme and OnePlus are coming up with fast charging solutions. For example, Vivo introduced the 120W Super Flash Fast charging earlier this year, and very recently, we saw Oppo using 65W Super VOOC technology on the Oppo Reno Ace smartphone. Vivo is yet to use the 120W fast charging technology on any of its smartphones, but we say the first phone in the first half of 2020.

Xiaomi’s 100W fast charging solution is still the wired solution and it will take 17 minutes to charge a 4000mAh cell fully. That said, we may not be able to use the technology on any of the Xiaomi smartphones available right now as it requires additional hardware to be used.

Vivo stated that its 120W charging technology charges 4000mAh battery in 13 minutes, whereas Xiaomi’s tech is said to charge the same capacity in 17 minutes. So Vivo still has a sizeable lead. Oppo’s 65W Super VOOC charging tech charges a 4000mAh cell in less than 25 minutes, whereas Realme’s 50W Super VOOC charging tech charges the same battery cell in 33 minutes.

2020 is Going to Be the Year of Fast Charging Flagship Phones

As noted, Xiaomi is currently focussing on bringing camera-centric phones to the market. For example, it’s the first company in the world to commercially launch a 108MP Penta-camera phone in collaboration with Samsung. The sub brands of BBK Electronics- Oppo, Vivo, Realme and OnePlus are not focussing on launching camera-centric phones, instead, their focus is on innovating fast charging technologies.

Xiaomi is not going to hold back in the fast charging innovation though. The company has now announced a 100W wired charging solution, as mentioned above. A few months ago, the company announced the world’s first 30W wireless charging technology and several companies are yet to beat this innovation from Xiaomi. Samsung, on the other hand, still has 45W wired fast charging solution and the Galaxy Note 10 has this feature.

It seems like we will see fast charging flagship phones in 2020. Already, Realme and Oppo are heating up the segment with the phones like Realme X2 Pro and the Oppo Reno Ace. The Realme X2 Pro is the fastest charging flagship phone in India right now as it uses 50W Super VOOC charging technology from Oppo. Realme’s parent company, Oppo, may launch the Reno Ace in India next month with 65W fast charging technology. OnePlus already has 30W Warp Charge 30T technology on OnePlus 7T series, so Vivo is the only company left without a fast charging flagship phone from the house of BBK Electronics.

With fast charger they should consider moving to 5000 mAh battery

Arena

Form factor, heat&weight management, drop protection, software optimization, per day SOT decides. With this speed, charging twice won’t be a problem.

Nikhil

New type of battery innovation should be on the cards. But Japan is doing some problems for research. I hope Li-ion batteries are thing of past in my opinion. Should not be there in 2024.

Krrish

They need to clean there OS to bring a sizable chunk of customers …. All these companies OS are a nightmare

Nikhil

Flashing custom roms is the only option with respect to Xiaomi phones. There are tons of stable roms available for Mido/Whyred/Violet/Beryllium. I hope development happens for Begonia as well. You don’t need to worry about OS on Xiaomi phones.

Rio

absolutely right Nikhil, after 1 year just root it and install custom ROM. Same thing i have done on my 5T.

Krishna

No need to root to use custom roms

Nikhil

To get a better battery life on Jio/Airtel rooting is necessary. I got 13 Hours of SOT on both Airtel and Jio on Redmi Note 4/Redmi Note 7 Pro by locking band 3. Ib MIUI it’s simply not possible. At the most 6-7 hours of screen on time. With expansion of 850Mhz/900Mhz/700Mhz battery life will improve drastically.

Vinit

How to lock band?
I used to do it using root and app called ‘Network Signal Guru’ but it is not working anymore. It says ‘QUALCOMM base-band and driver is not found’.

Priyansh

Bhai sabko nahi aata ROM Flash karna, this is the main reason I don’t go for Xiaomi Phones. Link de do jahan se thodhi information mil jaaye yaa step by step process maloom pad jaaye, there shouldn’t be any room for error as already the warranty of the device gets void. Ek baar try kiya tha Wondershare Application install kar k laptop pe par kaam bana nahi pta nahi kya Debugging wagarh karwa raha tha..

Nikhil

I don’t even know 1% of rooting and romming. Still all my phones are on custom rom. At repair centers, you can get it done within 500 Rupees.

Rio

Priyansh bhai rooting is very simple. Just search on YouTube for your phone. Root after 1 year because anyways your warranty is gone after that.
basically 3 steps:
1: Unlock bootloader (this will erase everything from your phone, your photos also, so take backup).
2. Install TWRP, this is custom recovery.
3. Now flash magisk manager.

No need of custom Rom, install xiomi ROM or whateverr company your phpne belongs to.
Now remove every bloatware, you can remove anything you want, even google/ phone dialer. everthing.

Priyansh

Rio, bhai, it may be easy for those who have done it. I’ve a fear that if I start doing it and couldn’t get it right. I wouldn’t be able to use my phone again as I’ll remove the installed software and wouldn’t be able to load a fresh one (custom ROM). Also I would like to add that since I use a Nokia Device and Nikhil had provided me with the info that their are No or very few Custom ROMs for this OEM. They don’t support unlocking bootloader either. So never taken this thing seriously as there is… Read more »

Rio

Welcome bro!!. Like I said there is no need of custom ROM. I rooted my oneplus 5T and I am still running on oxygenOS, there own ROM. Even I am afraid of custom ROM because many things are broken like VOLTE. Rooting mein thoda dar to lagta hi hai, par mza bahut aata hai. The only loss could be at most your photos/contact loss, which I take backup. I have removed google/play movies/play music and all other craps. There are no , absolutely no ads on my phone, neither in apps nor while browsing… there are tons of other things… Read more »
