It seems WhatsApp users around the world are getting invitations to download ‘WhatsApp gold’ version, which in fact is a malware that can infect the device.

WhatsApp Gold

The aforementioned ‘Gold’ version of the app promises astounding features such as video calling and the ability to send more than 100 pictures at a time. Added to the benefits, it also claims that this version of WhatsApp can only be received through invites and it is used “only by big celebrities”.

The users are said to receive messages like, “Hey Finally Secret WhatsApp golden version has been leaked”, with an invitation link. If the user clicks the invitation link, their device will be infected by malware, and hackers may be able to steal their data or track phone activity. The messages are usually said to be coming from unknown numbers.

Currently, it is unclear of how many users are affected by the scam. We would like to advise our readers to steer clear of anything that does not come through official channels. Always look up on the official company website or major online publications to know about any such launch. You can also ask us through the contact us page.
