At an event in New Delhi today, Chinese smartphone brand, Vivo announced the world's first dual pop-up selfie camera phone- the Vivo V17 Pro. The V17 Pro comes as a successor to the V15 Pro and it comes powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 Mobile Platform. Vivo is upping the camera game with the V17 Pro as the phone comes with a total of six cameras- two on the front and four on the rear side. The Vivo V17 Pro also has an in-display fingerprint scanner, 48MP primary rear sensor and a Super Night Selfie mode as well. Similar to the Oppo Reno 2 series, the V17 Pro also has an aspect ratio of 20:9 and it's a Full HD+ AMOLED display. The smartphone takes on the Xiaomi Redmi K20 Pro which has the powerful Snapdragon 855 chipset on board.

Vivo V17 Pro: Specifications and Features

The Vivo V17 Pro offers decent specifications for the asking price. Since the phone is heavily marketed towards the offline market, the price of the handset is slightly on the higher side, compared to the competitors. On the front, the V17 Pro has a 6.44-inch Full HD+ display with an aspect ratio of 20:9 and a resolution of 2400*1080 pixels. It's an AMOLED panel which allowed the company to include an in-display fingerprint scanner. To recall, the V15 Pro also featured an in-display scanner, so it's not surprising to see the V17 Pro retaining it. Additionally, to unlock the smartphone, there's a software-based Face Unlock as well.

Vivo launched the smartphone in two colour options- Glacier Ice and Midnight Ocean. Unlike the Vivo V15 Pro, the V17 Pro has a glass back protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 6.

Moving onto the hardware, the Vivo V17 Pro has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 Mobile Platform which is built on the 11nm manufacturing process. The phone comes with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. It's sad to see Vivo going with the same processor as the V15 Pro despite having the option to choose the Snapdragon 730 series. The phone also has a microSD card slot for storage expansion.

The Vivo V17 Pro has a Quad Camera setup on the back. The primary sensor is the 48MP Sony IMX582 which is a major upgrade over the Samsung GM1 sensor we saw on the Vivo V15 Pro. Other sensors include 13MP telephoto lens, 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens and a 2MP macro sensor for capturing closer objects. The phone offers several new modes like Super Night Mode, Super Wide Angle photo, 10X Digital Zoom, 2X Hybrid Zoom, Macro mode and bokeh mode.

On the front side, there are two sensors in the pop-up module. There's the primary 32MP selfie shooter that works in tandem with an 8MP ultra-wide-angle sensor. The front-facing camera also offers Super Night Mode, which is an interesting thing to see.

The phone boots Android 9 Pie-based FunTouch OS 9.1. Connectivity options include Dual 4G, VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS and USB Type-C port. Lastly, the phone is backed by a 4100mAh battery and has 18W fast charging support.

Vivo V17 Pro vs Vivo V15 Pro: What are the Differences?

The Vivo V17 Pro brings upgrades in every aspect when compared to the V15 Pro. Starting with the design, the V17 Pro has a glass back instead of plastic we saw on the V15 Pro. Underneath, both the phones have the same Snapdragon 675 chipset. The V17 Pro packs dual selfie cameras and four cameras on the back, whereas the V15 Pro arrived with a single front-facing camera and triple rear cameras. Also, the V17 Pro offers a bigger battery and a newer in-display fingerprint scanner.

Vivo V17 Pro: Pricing and Availability in India

The Vivo V17 Pro comes in a single variant with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The phone will retail for a price of Rs 29,990 and the pre-booking starts today. The first sale of the phone will be on September 27, 2019, through Flipkart and Amazon. The V17 Pro will also be available via the offline stores across the country.
