Virgin Media O2 (VMO2) has announced the expansion of its gigabit broadband services to an additional 11,000 homes in Huddersfield, bringing ultra-fast internet connectivity to more residents in the area. This expansion includes the introduction of the Gig2 broadband service, which offers speeds of up to 2 Gbps — 21 times faster than the local average.

Gigabit Broadband in Huddersfield
The new full fibre connections have been rolled out as part of a larger network upgrade project spearheaded by nexfibre, a joint venture backed by InfraVia Capital Partners, Liberty Global, and Telefonica. Virgin Media O2 is the anchor tenant of this joint venture and provides build services to nexfibre.
With a GBP 4.5 billion investment, nexfibre aims to deliver fibre to 5 million homes across the UK by 2026. Nexfibre recently announced it has already reached a total of one million premises passed and ready for service.
Virgin Media O2 is leveraging this network to deliver its broadband and TV Stream services to homes and businesses in Huddersfield. The expansion is part of the company's broader strategy to upgrade its entire fixed network to full fibre to the home (FTTH) technology.
