As per our sources, the Airtel 4G VoLTE smartphone will have a 4-inch display, but we don't have info about the panel, it could be a FWVGA display. A quad-core processor will fuel the smartphone, which will be coupled with 1GB of RAM.

The device will run Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box and comes with dual camera support (front and back). Of course, it will be a dual-SIM supported smartphone, which also has 4G LTE and VoLTE calling support. This entire package will be backed by a 1400-1600mAh battery.

The device will come with some preloaded useful apps such as FM Radio. The price of this device is expected to be around Rs. 2,500 and Rs. 2,700, and Airtel is expected to announce this around this Diwali.

As said earlier, Airtel is in talks with various handset makers for an affordable 4G VoLTE handset, meaning the company will co-brand the smartphone. Along with the handset, Airtel will provide attractively priced voice and data tariff plans.

Some other rumours also pointed out that Airtel will roll out VoLTE service in some cities starting this week itself. So, maybe the company might offer free voice calls with this device.

The primary reason for Bharti Airtel to consider launching a 4G VoLTE handset is because of the Reliance JioPhone, which is looking to stir the entire feature phone market. Effectively priced at Rs. 1,500, the JioPhone has already received six million bookings in the first pre-booking phase, and the shipping of the device is expected to start from September 21.

Another highlight of the JioPhone is the affordably priced tariff plan of Rs. 153, which gives unlimited voice calls and 500MB data per day for 28 days. Users will also get a premium subscription to JioApps.

Nevertheless, Airtel is looking to steal the thunder of the JioPhone with an aggressively priced 4G VoLTE smartphone and more importantly aggressive tariff plans.

Likely specifications of Airtel 4G smartphone:

  • 4-inch display
  • 1400–1600 mAh battery
  • 1 GB RAM; Quad core processer
  • Android 7.0 Nougat OS
  • Dual SIM Slot, Dual Camera
  • 4G VoLTE Calling
