Turkcell Trials W-Band to Boost 5G and 6G Backhaul Capacity
Turkcell and Ericsson announced a collaboration to explore new spectrum solutions that will enhance mobile backhaul capacity for technologies such as 5G and 6G. A key part of this collaboration includes a successful trial of a W-Band solution, which increases the available spectrum by 1.5 times in addition to the existing E-band. This will more than double the high-performance backhaul spectrum, the partners said in a joint statement this week.

W-Band Solution Trial

The trial demonstrates that by opening up the W-band (92 – 114.5 GHz), Turkcell can significantly boost mobile backhaul capacity, which is critical for data-heavy connections and future use cases. The W-band solution enables up to 100 Gbps transport capacities, allowing Turkcell to offer better services at optimised costs, enhancing customer value, and unlocking new business and revenue opportunities.

Sustainable Network Solutions

Utilising millimeter Wave (mmWave) bands such as the W-Band will help reduce energy consumption and the carbon footprint, making it a sustainable solution for future mobile networks, the official release said.

Turkcell says: "Our partnership with Ericsson on the W-Band transport trial is a major step forward in meeting the ever-increasing demand for mobile backhaul capacity. With this, we are not only enhancing our customers' experiences but also creating new business opportunities and driving revenue growth."

Enhanced Mobile Broadband Services

The increased backhaul spectrum will support high-performance mobile broadband services from 4G to 5G and beyond, significantly improving customer experiences. The enhanced capacity and improved service capabilities are expected to create new business opportunities and drive revenue growth for Turkcell, the telco said.
