Telefonica Spain (Movistar) has rolled out its 5G summer plan to bolster network capacity and coverage in 401 out of 445 tourist destinations where its 5G service is already active. The upgrade covers 320 coastal destinations across the country as well as 81 inland localities experiencing a significant influx of visitors during the summer. In an announcement on Thursday, Telefonica said these network upgrades will remain in place even after the summer season ends.

5G Coverage for Tourist Hotspots
Movistar's 5G network now spans 391 beach towns, ranging from small locales like El Port de la Selva (Gerona) and Caravia (Asturias) to larger cities such as Roquetas de Mar (Almeria) and San Fernando (Cadiz), among others. Similarly, in inland areas, 54 destinations with high summer visitor numbers, including small towns like Maello (Avila) and Panticosa (Huesca), also benefit from 5G coverage.
5G for Enhanced Mobile Experiences
Of the total 445 tourist destinations with Movistar's 5G (391 coastal and 54 inland), about 50 percent now have high-capacity 5G (3,500 MHz), delivering high speeds and low latency for improved mobile experiences, such as high-quality video, instant downloads, uninterrupted streaming, and cloud gaming even in crowded spaces, the company reported.

Strengthened 5G for Events Across Spain
Telefonica has also strengthened 5G coverage for 576 events across Spain, including major festivals like Mad Cool in Madrid and FIB in Benicasim. The deployment includes 103 temporary mobile units to manage peak demands during these events.
With this summer deployment, Movistar's 5G now covers over 89 percent of the population across Spain, the company said.
