Tecno Phantom 9 First Impressions: Impressive Set of Features on a Mid-Range Phone

Follow Us

Tecno has become a popular name in India when it comes to low-range smartphones. The brand was the first to introduce a triple rear camera setup smartphone Camon i4 in this price range for Rs 8,999. However, Tecno, which is owned by Transsion Holdings, is now ready to make the leap from low-end smartphones to the mid-range with the launch of Phantom 9. This device bears a price tag of Rs 14,999, and it comes with some attractive features like the dew-drop notch, in-display fingerprint sensor 6GB RAM and more. There is no doubt that the phone will face intense competition in this segment, however, let’s take a look at what the Tecno Phantom 9 has to offer on a first look.

Tecno Phantom 9 First Impressions: Design and Display

When it comes to design, the Tecno Phantom 9 surely lives up to the trend as the rear panel on the phone sports a dual-tone gradient finish. This panel has a bluish hue which turns purple as one goes towards the bottom. The rear side also has the triple camera setup which is vertically oriented on the left side along with the Phantom branding. Towards the bottom, we have the Tecno branding as well. On the front, the phone sports a dew-drop notch, and the bezels on the Phantom 9 are minimal. The chin is slightly more in width when compared to the bezels. However, that is something which the users won’t mind much. As for the display, the Phantom 9 sports a 6.4-inch Full HD+ display rendering a resolution of 2340×1080 pixels.

Tecno Phantom 9 First Impressions: Performance

The Phantom 9 comes with the MediaTek Helio P35 SoC which has not yet made its place in a lot of mainstream phones and their chipsets. The Helio P35 is built on a 12nm process and clocks frequency up to 2.35GHz. Besides this, powering the device is a 6GB RAM which the users will find ample for day to day usage. Also, another plus point is the massive 128GB storage which can be expanded to 256GB in case that is required.

The highlight of the phone is the in-display fingerprint sensor which has made its foray to the mid-range segment for the second time. Now although there are a few phones in the same price range with in-display fingerprint sensor but the overall package which the Phantom 9 offers might supersede the attractiveness of the other phones. The device also comes with Face Unlock for security purposes.

On the software front, the phone boots the HiOS 5.0, which is something that the users might feel a little overpowering and filled with bloatware. However, you will be able to tackle these apps if you want. Under the hood, the phone has a 3,500mAh battery which sadly does not come with fast charging support and is paired with a 10W charger inside the box.

Tecno Phantom 9 First Impressions: Camera Configuration and Performance

The Tecno Phantom 9 sports a triple rear camera setup which is AI backed and it comprises of a 16MP primary sensor, 2MP depth sensor and an 8MP extra-wide sensor. This triple rear camera setup also comes with quad-LED flash placed just below the sensors. Also, on the front, the device features a 32MP AI backed sensor for selfies paired with dual-LED flash. Till you wait for a detailed review of the camera, here are a few samples we managed to click from the Tecno Phantom 9 to give you an idea what the camera is capable of.

First Impression Thoughts

The Tecno Phantom 9 seems like an intriguing device given the specifications it packs and the massive 6GB RAM along with the triple rear camera setup.
