The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) introduced the norms of its new tariff framework back in 2017, and the same mandate will finally see the light of the day today. Up till now, the regulator has been urging all the subscribers to choose their respective plans and make their choices about the Trai based channel packs. Most DTH providers like Tata Sky, Airtel Digital TV and MSOs including have put out their channel packs information with individual prices for each channel. Subscribers will have access to 100 SD channels as part of their base pack which will be charged at a maximum of Rs 130 per month exclusive of taxes.

Trai has also said that each HD channel will equal to two SD channels. Further, if the subscriber decides to go for more than the 100 channels, then he or she can pay Rs 20 for a slab of 25 channels. On these lines, the DTH providers and MSOs are offering two options to the subscribers. Firstly, to go with the recommended plans and curated channels which the provider has selected for them or to make their own channel packs from broadcasters list which will be fully customised by the subscribers themselves.
