The Only Channel Selection Guide You Will Need to Read for Tata Sky, Dish TV and Airtel Digital TV

The new Trai mandate goes live today and will bring into effect the new tariff regime introduced in 2017

Highlights
  • The base pack price for 100 SD channels has been set at Rs 130 exclusive of taxes
  • Subscribers will be able to customise their channel selections through the provider's website or app

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) introduced the norms of its new tariff framework back in 2017, and the same mandate will finally see the light of the day today. Up till now, the regulator has been urging all the subscribers to choose their respective plans and make their choices about the Trai based channel packs. Most DTH providers like Tata Sky, Airtel Digital TV and MSOs including have put out their channel packs information with individual prices for each channel. Subscribers will have access to 100 SD channels as part of their base pack which will be charged at a maximum of Rs 130 per month exclusive of taxes.

Trai has also said that each HD channel will equal to two SD channels. Further, if the subscriber decides to go for more than the 100 channels, then he or she can pay Rs 20 for a slab of 25 channels. On these lines, the DTH providers and MSOs are offering two options to the subscribers. Firstly, to go with the recommended plans and curated channels which the provider has selected for them or to make their own channel packs from broadcasters list which will be fully customised by the subscribers themselves. If you want to take either path, don’t worry we have got you covered. Take a detailed look to see how you can choose your base pack’s 100 channels on Tata Sky, Airtel Digital TV and Dish TV.

Channel Selection Process for Airtel Digital TV

Airtel Digital TV subscribers will be able to select their plans via the MyAirtel application or on the official Airtel website. When the subscribers log into the site, they will have to enter the OTP sent to their registered mobile number. Once the subscriber logs in, they will have the option to choose the Airtel Digital TV recommended channels or a-la-carte channels. After the subscriber has chosen its 100 channels or more with the pre-customised monthly pack, the user will be shown the total monthly amount which they will have to pay. If the amount is okay, then you will have to press the confirm button, and your channel packs will be selected. You can alternatively follow this new procedure introduced by Airtel Digital TV here.

Channel Selection Process for Tata Sky

For Tata Sky subscribers, the method for selecting their 100 channels base pack is quite similar as they can do so by going on the Tata Sky official website or the iOS or Android application. Like it is the case with Airtel Digital TV, Tata Sky will also offer the subscribers to go with their recommended list of channels along with the option of curating your channels as well. So, you will be able to choose any one of the options and proceed ahead with it. The NCF for Tata Sky will be same which will be Rs 130 plus the 18% GST. It is worth noting that if a subscriber adds a pay channel, then the price of it will be added on top of the base pack price. For someone, who has had a longer validity recharge with Tata Sky, their monthly amount will be deducted against their Tata Sky account balance. Tata Sky users can log into their account through this portal and proceed with the channel selection process.

Channel Selection Process for Dish TV

To make and finalise their channel selections, Dish TV subscribers can head over to the Dish TV website or application and log in using their OTP received on the registered number. Then the users will be required to choose between the three broad categories of Dish Combo, Channels and Bouquets. Subscribers will then be able to make selections across languages or genres like English, Infotainment, Kids and more and apart from this, they will also be able to select individual channels from the list as well. In Dish TV’s list of basic channels, the operator has made the choices for you beforehand which you will be able to change. As you go on making the changes, you will see that the price is reflected on the cart on the right side of the page. Once you are done making your selections, you can proceed ahead with the payment.

It is worth noting that in Tata Sky’s and Dish TV’s pack the 25 free DD channels come pre-selected and there is no option of removing them. If someone chooses more than 100 channels, then the cost will be added on top of their base pack price.

We should boycott viewing this TV itself. TRAI and all are looting like anything. They all are getting free and common man suffers. I don’t think anyone from TRAI uses their brain before doing such plans or atleast consult the common man. Day by Day it is becoming difficult, new rules without using any brains.
