Sharp Aquos S3 With Android Oreo and Snapdragon 630 SoC Goes Official

Japanese smartphone brand, Sharp has announced the Sharp Aquos S3 smartphone today. Sharp was the originally said to launch the Aquos S3 in Vietnam on March 28, however, the company has announced the smartphone in Taiwan today itself surprising everyone. Sharp is calling the Aquos S3 as the most compact 6-inch smartphone because it boasts a 91% screen-to-body ratio. And it features pretty decent hardware for the asking price. The smartphone will never be launched in India, but there are some rumours that Sharp is looking to enter the Indian market very soon with aggressive pricing strategy.

Coming to the specifications of the Sharp Aquos S3, it features a 6-inch display carrying a resolution of 2160×1080 pixels. Like several other smartphones releasing these days, the Aquos S3 also has a notch on top of the display which houses the front-facing camera and earpiece. There's a chin to the bottom of the phone which has Sharp branding. The display of the Aquos S3 is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass technology.

At the heart of the Aquos S3 is the octa-core Snapdragon 630 mid-range chipset, coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. Graphics in the smartphone are taken care by the Adreno 508 GPU. There's a microSD card slot for storage expansion, but it's a hybrid slot.

The smartphone boots Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box with Sharp's own Smile UX on top. To the rear, there's a dual camera setup with a primary 12MP sensor and a secondary 13MP sensor. The 12MP RGB sensor has the f/1.75 aperture, 1.4um pixel size, Phase Detection Autofocus (PDAF), dual-tone LED flash. The secondary 13MP camera has a telephoto lens with 2X zoom support. Sharp has added a 16MP front-facing camera to the smartphone with f/2.0 aperture.

The fingerprint scanner is placed on the back of the phone, and it comes with software-based Face Unlock feature. A 3200mAh battery backs the smartphone with connectivity options ranging from 4G LTE, VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth, GPS and NFC. The Aquos S3 has a USB Type-C port.

Sharp also announced the price of the Aquos S3 in Taiwan. The Aquos S3 will be available in a single Black colour option for NT$ 11,990, which converts to Rs 26,700. The phone will be up for sale starting April 1.
