Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018): India Launch Details
The much-anticipated Galaxy A9 with an industry first, four-camera rear system will arrive in India on November 20, the company said on Wednesday. According to industry sources, Galaxy A9 will be aggressively priced around Rs 35,000 -- a price range where Chinese players like OnePlus and Oppo are firmly placed.
With the focus on young millennials, Samsung will launch Galaxy A9 in new gradient colours -- Caviar Black, Bubble gum pink and Lemonade Blue, the sources added. To recall, the device was globally launched at an event in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia last month.
A couple of months ago, Samsung launched the Galaxy A8 Star in India at Rs 34,990 taking on the OnePlus 6. Recently, the price of the A8 Star was reduced to Rs 29,990, making space for the upcoming A9 (2018). Notably, the Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018) could be an online-only smartphone.
Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018): Specifications and Features
The Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018) is a decent smartphone when it comes to specifications, but it doesn't match the OnePlus 6T in the hardware aspect though. Companies such as Honor, OnePlus, Xiaomi and Vivo are looking the Rs 30,000 and above price point as a premium segment, but Samsung is still considering the segment as an upper mid-range market.
The upcoming smartphone from Samsung features a 6.3-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED Infinity display on the front, carrying an aspect ratio of 18.5:9 and a resolution of 1080x2220 pixels. Underneath, it has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset, paired with up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. It has a microSD card slot for storage expansion.
The USP of the A9 (2018) are the four cameras on the rear side. Samsung has packed a 24MP primary sensor, 8MP ultrawide sensor, 10MP sensor with a telephoto lens offering 2X optical zoom and a 5MP depth sensor which will add bokeh effect to the images. The phone boots Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box with Samsung's own Experience UI on top. It has a big 3800mAh battery under the hood.
Despite sporting mid-range hardware, the Galaxy A9 (2018) could turn out to be a successful phone for Samsung because of the quad cameras which we haven't seen on any smartphone in the industry till date.
