India’s number one telecom operator, Reliance Jio, has welcomed the reforms that the Government of India (GoI) has announced for the sector. The telco has called the reforms a “timely” step from the GoI and believes that these new reforms will aid in strengthening the telcos sector of India. Further, Jio said that the relief measures announced will help the government is moving towards its Digital India ambition.
Reliance Jio said that it aims to bring the fruits of the digital ecosystem to complete 1.35 billion Indians. The relief measures announced by the government will help the telco in doing so. Jio wants to bring India the best digital services for the least cost. With these new reforms, the telco said it would be able to offer more benefits to its customers.
Mukesh Ambani Welcomes Government’s Decision
Mukesh Ambani, Managing Director and Chairman of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), welcomed the relief measures from the government. Ambani said that these measures would boost the government’s Digital India initiative.
What’s worth noting here is that Reliance Jio will now be in an even better position to scale its business. The telco doesn’t have huge adjusted gross revenue (AGR) dues like Vodafone Idea (Vi) and Bharti Airtel, and, on top of that, Reliance Jio also has positive cash flow.
With 5G coming around the corner, the telco will be looking to increase its market share. These reforms are just a bonus for both Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio. While it will aid Vodafone Idea (Vi) a lot, these reforms are going to act as a business booster for Jio and Airtel.
Ambani said that the telecom sector is one of the main and primary movers of the economy. With these reforms, not only the sector but the whole Indian economy will benefit. Vodafone Idea will particularly be happy since its worries about payments of dues will be lifted, at least for a short while.
