Redmi Announces New Gaming Phone With Helio G90T SoC

If there is one company in the Indian smartphone market that knows how to create a monopoly, then it is no other than Xiaomi. The Chinese smartphone manufacturer has conquered the budget segment in India and has also now stepped into the premium segment with the launch of the Redmi K20 Pro. However, if there is one segment of smartphone industry which Xiaomi was shying away from, till now, it is the gaming phone segment. But, it seems that the wait for a Redmi gaming phone is almost over for the public as Xiaomi has announced that it will be launching a Redmi Gaming phone soon with a MediaTek Helio G90T SoC.




Redmi Gaming Phone Details

Like it is the case every time, again Xiaomi Global VP and India Chief again resorted to Twitter to announce about this new phone and also said that it would arrive in India as well. In the Tweet, Jain shared a picture with MediaTek Wireless Communication business’ General Manager TL Lee thus confirming that this phone would come with a MediaTek processor to support heavy performance.

The Xiaomi Global VP also joined the MediaTek’s Helio G90 event and on the stage announced that by partnering up with up MediaTek, Xiaomi would use the Helio G90T SoC in its upcoming gaming phone. During the event, Jain also shared some statistics about the mobile gaming scene in India and highlighted that the Indian gaming mobile industry is huge and ranks at the top 5 in the world. India also boasts of 22 million mobile gamers who spend an average of 42 minutes per day. Thus, the Xiaomi executive highlighted how the Indian mobile gaming crowd is imperative to Xiaomi. Jain also added that it is a high chance that the gaming segment could become a billion-dollar industry in a year or two.

Xiaomi’s biggest releases this year have come under its sub-brand Redmi, and this gaming phone is also going to debut with the Redmi moniker. Redmi has confirmed this by putting a post about this gaming phone on its Weibo page. This post also reads that a new gaming phone will be launched by Redmi with the Helio G90T SoC worldwide.

More Details About MediaTek Helio G90T SoC

The Helio G90T is accompanied by MediaTek's HyperEngine game technology that has been claimed to provide an enhanced gaming experience on smartphones. The SoC comes with an octa-core ARM Mali-G76 3EEMC4 GPU. As per the company’s claims, the processor offers 1TMACs (TeraMAC) performance. The octa-core CPU includes ARM Cortex-A76 and Cortex-A55 cores which clock frequency of 2.05GHz. The SoCs also have Mali-G76 3EEMC4 GPU clocked at up to 800MHz. The Helio G90T supports up to 90Hz displays, 10GB RAM, and 64MP primary sensor on a quad camera setup.
