Realme, the former Oppo sub-brand, has amassed a large number of users in the country. With bets on entry-level smartphones and budget-segment devices, Realme has surely found a substantial user base in the country. The major reason for the whopping number of sales for Realme has been the presence of noteworthy specifications in low-priced devices. This is something that the smartphone leader in the country, Xiaomi, has been known to be expert in. Now, in the latest development for Realme, the first phone from the company, Realme 1 has received a new update on the software front. The update for Realme 1 has also been brought to the Realme U1, and it brings the latest ColorOS 6.0 to both of these smartphones. Now the notable features that the users will appreciate on these smartphones are Dark Mode and October Security Patch, but there is one thing that the users definitely won’t like, and that is the presence of ads on the phones.
Ads Inside System Apps on Realme 1 and Realme U1
The software update which the Realme 1 received was of the version CPH1861EX_11_C.45. Now the ads inside the Realme 1 have been placed in system apps, and you are likely to find them in places like the installation screens, app folders and more. It is not confirmed, whether the Realme U1 also gets a similar update which brings ads on this smartphone. As noted by some of the Twitter users with this device, in the Settings, there is an interesting toggle which has been titled “Get Recommendations”, and when the update is made, the toggle is switched on by default. This infers that Realme 1 is going to show product recommendations and various apps across system apps on the Realme 1. However, there is more to the story.
When the news of ads on ColorOS 6.0 reached Realme, Francis Wang, CMO of the company took to Twitter to respond with a statement saying that the ads a result of an error on a beta update. But, in fact, the update which was made to Realme 1 was a C.45 update. Also, not to mention that if Realme has introduced ads to the beta version under a testing phase, it could be likely that the company is in preparation to launch ads to the stable version of the update, along with some likely planning to introduce ads on its other smartphones as well.
Other Features on ColorOS 6.0
Speaking of other features on the Realme 1 and the Realme U1, the phones definitely get some interesting ones which include the Dark Mode, October Security Patch, Realme laboratory, a data switch function in the notification centre, app cloner. In addition to all this, Realme 1 and Realme U1 have also received the Digital Wellbeing feature which has been made mandatory for all the OEMs running on Android now.
How Will the Realme Users Respond to Ads?
It is worth noting that ads inside the system apps have been a thing of controversy in the past and have always been up for debate with topics like data privacy and security running high in the headlines. Other OEMs like Xiaomi and Vivo have also meddled with ads, and they are present in Xiaomi’s MIUI and Vivo’s UI too, but with the new ads now spotted on the Realme 1, it is quite possible that the company could join the league of smartphone manufacturers showing ads inside their system UI. It will be interesting to see how the existing Realme 1 and Realme U1 users respond to the new update.
