Philips launches a range of its smartphones in India

India is one of the most attractive  smartphone markets right now. Every company wants a part of market share with huge growth potential and growth pace. Today, Philips has announced its entry in the Indian smartphone market with three new smartphones and all of them are dual SIM devices.

Philips S308 (Rs 8,290)

Philips S308
Philips S308
  • 4 inch capacitive display with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels
  • 1.2 GHz dual-core MediaTek MT6572M processor
  • 512MB RAM
  • Android 4.2 Jelly Bean
  • 4GB internal storage which can be expanded by another 32GB with the help of a microSD card
  • 5MP rear camera with a LED flash, no front camera
  • 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS with A-GPS for connectivity
  • 1400 mAh battery
  • Rs 8,290

The Philips S308 seems a bit overpriced for the specifications it offers and we doubt that it will even stand a chance in front of the Moto E which provides a lot more for a lesser price.

Philips W3500 (Rs 16,195)

The Philips W3500 comes with a 5 inch WVGA screen, quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 5 MP camera and a 2200 mAh battery. You can get a slew of devices in the sub Rs 10,000 price range which offer a similar spec sheet so you can surely save yourself a lot of money by looking elsewhere for the choice of device.

  • 1.3 GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6582 processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • Android 4.2 Jelly Bean
  • 4GB internal storage which can be expanded by another 32GB courtesy of its microSD card slot
  • 5MP rear camera with LED Flash which is joined in by a 2MP front snapper
  • 3G, W-iFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth and GPS with A-GPS ensure that you remain connected
  • 2200 mAh battery
  • Rs 16,195

Philips W6610 (Rs 20,650)

At this price tag, the Philips W6610 misses out on HD screen. Some of its competitors are also offering full HD screens. Yes it has a battery unit which is the biggest in the country but then it seems overpriced too.

Philips W6610
  • 5 inch IPS display with a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels
  • 1.3 GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6582 processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • Android 4.2 Jelly Bean
  • 4GB internal storage which can be further expanded by another 32GB
  • 8MP rear camera with LED Flash and a 2MP front camera
  • 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS with A-GPS which is pretty much the standard these days
  • 5300 mAh battery which is its USP and Philips is claiming a talk time of upto 33 hours for the same.
  • Rs. 20,650

All the smartphones from the stable of Philips are way too overpriced for the package on offer and run an older version of Android. It is a brand we all love for our choice of electronics but we can’t suggest the same for smartphones.
