According to a report by BGR PayTM has started offering the service in Noida Sector 18 metro station. Right now a lot of details about the service such as the procedure to connect, time limit for the free service or data speeds aren’t known, but we can certainly speculate that the company may roll out the same at other metro stations or popular hangout spots in Delhi-NCR.
While announcing the new service on Twitter, Paytm founder Vijay Shekhar Sharma did clarify that Paytm Wi-Fi service will be available for all apps, not restricted to Paytm app only. His clarification may have come due to some confusion over his previous tweet that said,“Coming Soon. Paytm Wi-Fi to #PaytmKaro for everyone, even without an Internet connection.”
Free Wi-Fi public services are increasingly popular among the youth. From coffee shops to railway stations, a slew of service providers such as Ozone are providing free public Wi-Fi services. New Delhi in particular is increasingly growing as a popular Wi-Fi hotspots city. Several popular areas in Delhi such as Khan Market and Connaught Place have been made free Wi-Fi zones. Vodafone is providing the service in Khan Market, while Tata Docomo had launched the service both in Khan Market and CP in Delhi.
Moreover, places like Delhi Secretariat have free public Wi-Fi service. As far as the metro stations go, back in 2014 MTS India had introduced free Wi-Fi services on Rapid Metro Gurgaon. In fact, the ruling Aam Admi Party in Delhi had made a pre-poll promise to people that it will be rolling out free Wi-Fi service across Delhi.
