The first smartphone from Oppo' sub-brand Realme seems to be doing a decent job for the company. Oppo has now sent a press statement saying that it sold over four lakh units of Realme 1 in just 40 days since the launch. Furthermore, Realme 1 has topped the Amazon Bestseller rankings in the last two months and has also been featured as the highest rated phone with a 4.4 rating on Amazon India. With the Realme brand, Oppo aimed to take on Xiaomi at its own game- which is by offering excellent specifications at an affordable price. The Realme 1 is possibly the most powerful smartphone under Rs 15,000 price point, thanks to the MediaTek Helio P60 chipset.

Speaking on the overwhelming response received by the brand, Madhav Sheth, Chief Executive Officer of Realme, said, “The sales figures of Realme 1 resonate with the brand’s vision of addressing the real issues present in the smartphone market and provide ultimate user experience. We are glad our customers have been supportive of our products and have been great endorsers for the brand. Being a new entrant in the smartphone market, these results encourage us to deliver a wider range of Realme products in the future.”

Oppo introduced its sub-brand at the start of May, followed by the Realme 1 launch during mid-May. The smartphone finally went on for sale in the country exclusively via Amazon on May 25. The Realme 1 is available in three variants- 3GB RAM+32GB storage option, 4GB RAM+64GB storage variant and the high-end 6GB RAM+128GB storage option. Oppo stated that the base variant (3+32GB) was completely sold out.

The Oppo Realme 1's 3GB+32GB variant is priced at Rs 8,990, followed by the 4GB+64GB variant at Rs 10,990. The 6GB RAM variant is available at a price of Rs 13,990. The Realme 1 is the cheapest smartphone with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage in India right now. The Realme 1 comes in 3 colours, which are Diamond Black, Moonlight Silver and Solar Red.

Even though the device had some drawbacks such as no fingerprint scanner, plastic body, consumers received it well because of the aggressive price tag.

Furthermore, Realme states that the Realme 1 will be updated to Android P in the future, but it did not give any estimated time for update release date.
