Oppo has declared today, that it will be launching the Oppo R5 in India in December. The company also revealed that the smartphone will be priced anywhere between Rs 25,000 to Rs 30,000.
The Oppo R5 first came in limelight in October when it was launched in other nations. The R5 attracted many eyeballs as it boasted a thickness of just 4.85mm and it even took away the ’slimmest’ title from Gionee Elife, which was cashing in on the same quality. However, merely two days ago, Chinese manufacturer, Vivo also announced, the X5 Max, which is just 4.75mm thin, pushing back the Oppo R5. The X5 Max is set to launch in India on December 15.
In terms of specifications, the Oppo R5 comes with a 5.2-inch full HD AMOLED display. It is powered by a 64-bit Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor coupled with 2GB of RAM. The device sports a 13-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel front facing camera and a 2000mAh battery. The connectivity options include 4G LTE, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Similar to its earlier flagship devices, the battery on the R5 too supports VOOC rapid charging technology. It runs on Color OS 2.0, which is based on Android 4.4 KitKat.

Oppo R5 is crafted in a metallic casing with ceramic finishing. Given its thin built, the device might heat up soon, so to overcome the drawback, Oppo has included a Cool Element tech which uses liquid metal-like material to cool down the phone. However, for the love of ’thin’ Oppo had to sacrifice the 3.5mm universal jack, instead it comes with microUSB headphones.
Moreover, Oppo is also planning to open its own showrooms and exclusive stores across India. The company aims to have over 4,000 retail outlets in one year.
It seems like that now most of such companies are battling on the 'slimmest' title. Does the design matter more than the performance? let us know through your priceless comments.
