Open Fiber has announced the construction of a Fiber to the Home (FTTH) Network Build to bring high-speed fibre optic connectivity to Canosa di Puglia, Italy, through the “Italian Plan for 1 Giga”. The infrastructure initiative funded by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) funds is spearheaded by Open Fiber.

FTTH Deployment
According to Open Fiber, this deployment of FTTH technology, connects 2,439 civic buildings serving 4,628 real estate units, including residential homes, businesses, and public administration offices. Open Fiber says the initial phase of construction has already begun in ‘Zone 167,’ and subsequent phases will be carried out in various parts of the city over the coming weeks.
Among the institutions to benefit from this fibre network are educational establishments, the hospital’s emergency room at “Caduti in Guerra,” the Single Reservation Center, the Police Station, the Railway Station, the Social Childhood Center “Sonia,” as well as several historical and artistic sites.

Eco-Friendly Technology
Open Fiber stated that the advanced FTTH network deployed by it offers a connectivity speed of up to 10 Gbps, while also being eco-friendly. Fibre optic technology is energy efficient, reducing carbon emissions and heat dispersion. This promotes a sustainable and eco-friendly digital environment for the project. Open Fiber said it uses existing infrastructure and low-impact excavation to minimize disruption to the community and environment.
