On Tuesday, OnePlus provided deadlines for the much awaited rollout of the Lollipop update for its smartphone. The company promised a CM12S-based build in line with the steady OxygenOS before the end of March.
The company states, the update for Lollipop-based Cyanogen OS build will start rolling via OTA on March 30 (may be before that). Whereas the OxygenOS build will be rolled out as a ROM download, before March 27 (or maybe before that).
OnePlus is so confident about the commitment that they are willing to give away 5 devices if they miss the release timeline. To be eligible for the giveaway, users will be required to reply to the announcement on the OnePlus forum post.
Also, the company also presented some of the reasons responsible for the delay caused in rolling out Lollipop updates earlier, it said, “We never intended to keep you waiting. Unfortunately, we ran into some unexpected roadblocks. First, there was an unforeseen OS signing issue, which has recently been resolved. Our camera module had stability issues on Lollipop, and we had to rebuild it for compatibility. Several other crucial drivers, including our Wi-Fi drivers, also needed to be updated to work flawlessly with the upgrade. Admittedly, it took a little more time than we had planned, but we only release updates that we are proud of; that means refusing to take shortcuts or deliver sub-par experiences.”
The company also says that the fans based in Europe and India won’t be kept waiting for the OnePlus Power Bank, as the firm is looking into the issues regarding the shipping of pure batteries and battery certifications, relating to various markets for the delay. No information has been let out regarding the launch timeline though.
