OnePlus Inaugurates R&D Centre in Hyderabad, Plans to Invest Rs 1,000 Crore

OnePlus, which is now the country’s leading premium smartphone brand, today inaugurated its first R&D facility in Hyderabad. The inauguration was attended by Former Minister of Telangana, K. T. Rama Rao, Jayesh Ranjan IAS, Principal Secretary for IT and OnePlus Founder and CEO Pete Lau. At the event, OnePlus also announced its plans to invest Rs 1,000 crore into its R&D facility in Hyderabad over the next three years. The investment will likely generate over 2,000 jobs in the city. OnePlus says the R&D facility “will not only play a critical role in the development of Artificial Intelligence and Machine learning in OnePlus products but will also drive innovations that are centric and relevant to the company’s Indian community.”

OnePlus to Develop AI, 5G and IoT Innovations at its R&D Facility

The R&D facility in Hyderabad will focus on several developments and it will not be just limited to OxygenOS. “In three years, we plan to grow the new R&D centre in Hyderabad into our biggest globally. We plan to re-focus our R&D efforts on a large scale and drive innovations in India for the global product, especially on the software side with special emphasis on Artificial Intelligence, 5G and IoT,” said Pete Lau, Founder and CEO, OnePlus.

The R&D facility is located at Vamsiram IT Park, Wipro Circle, Nanakramguda. According to OnePlus, the R&D Centre will feature three lab- camera lab which will focus on camera development, networking labs that will carry out various 5G testing in India, and automation labs which works majorly on software, AI and performance testing.
