Chinese smartphone brand, OnePlus, seems to be working on a mid-range smartphone to release in 2020. Named as the OnePlus 8 Lite, the handset could debut alongside the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro smartphones in early 2020. Similar to the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro smartphones, 3D renders of the OnePlus 8 Lite are leaked online now. Going by these renders, we can confirm the OnePlus 8 Lite will feature a punch-hole cutout on the screen and there will be dual cameras on the rear side of the phone. Overall, the OnePlus 8 Lite will look pretty much identical to the OnePlus 8, except for the rectangular camera present on the back. Right now, there’s no official confirmation from OnePlus whether the Lite version of OnePlus 8 exists or not, but it’s apparently in the works.

OnePlus 8 Lite to Launch in Q2 2020: What You Need to Know

The existence of OnePlus 8 Lite comes as a surprise as the company stayed away from the mid-range segment for nearly four years now. The one and only mid-range phone from OnePlus was the OnePlus X which received a poor response from the audience thanks to its sub-par battery life. Since then, OnePlus stuck to only one flagship phone at a time. In 2019, the company’ strategy took a new turn as it went onto compete with the big guns like Samsung, Apple and Huawei in the premium smartphone segment. Also, 2019 will mark as the first year for OnePlus during which it launched four flagship smartphones.

In 2020, it seems like we will get to see three OnePlus smartphones launching at one go. In Q2 2020, OnePlus will launch the OnePlus 8 series which is rumoured to include a total of three phones- the standard OnePlus 8, the premium OnePlus 8 Pro and the affordable OnePlus 8 Lite.

The 3D renders of OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro leaked online revealed the design of both the phones. Now, it’s time for the OnePlus 8 Lite to get the same treatment. Courtesy of 91mobiles and OnLeaks, we now have the first 3D renders of the OnePlus 8 Lite.

The OnePlus 8 Lite will have a flat display, punch-hole located on the top centre of the phone, and possibly, an in-display fingerprint scanner. It seems like the handset will offer glass build and there will be dual cameras on the backside. The OnePlus 8 Lite will not have a 3.5mm headphone jack and it’s said to measure 8.6mm in thickness.

Besides these details, we don’t have much information regarding the OnePlus 8 Lite at the moment. We’re expecting more details to pop up online in the coming weeks, especially at the beginning of 2020.

OnePlus 8 Lite Could Be the Mid-Range Smartphone We Deserve

OnePlus smartphones always received a thumbs up from the audience because of their reliable performance. But the major credit goes to OxygenOS which is the best Android skin right now. OnePlus took two years to tweak OxygenOS and majority of OnePlus smartphone owners rate it as the best feature of OnePlus devices.

A mid-range OnePlus smartphone with OxygenOS will eat up the market share of Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo. Vivo is dominating the sub Rs 30,000 segment with Vivo V series of phones, whereas Xiaomi stepped into the same price bracket this year with the Redmi K20 series. Oppo also has a strong foothold between Rs 20,000 and Rs 30,000 in India. Hardware details of the OnePlus 8 Lite are unknown at the moment.

Live in a dream. Why would i buy One plus lite device for 20k when I’m getting Redmi flagship devices for 25k. Don’t give a damn about Oxygen OS

Nikhil

Exactly.

SACHIN

redmi is psuedo flagship only 855 chip means no flagship

bharat khanna

what!!! you mean to say all oneplus phones before 2018 where not flagship?????? Because that is what they had oxygenOs and processor!

Ashish

Then don’t buy. Nobody is forcing you to buy. ?

There was a time where one plus was the min-range priced phone we deserve , no the fact that they have to launch a mid rainge (cheap) version says where the company has reached in terms of pricing. This may be a good phone manufacture but it has long lost and far from “Budget flagship phone” name that it once had claimed

Nikhil

Barring US AND India, One Plus has zero presence. In India, I am doubtful about their growth in future unless and until they improve camera and now design also. Software alone can’t get you sales.

Ashish

Have you used one plus 7 pro?

bharat khanna

Have you used those slider camera oppo vivo phones? Or k20?

Nikhil

I have used all the One Plus phones since it’s launch. One Plus 7 Pro was more or less targeted at US community. This time around there were lot of glitches which fixed through updates over four months. Camera was trash compared to Huawei P30 Pro and Google Pixel 3XL and Google Pixel 3aXL. Price was steep too for what they are offering. In launch event, Pete lau mentioned cost was so high due to curved amoled display. But that’s not the case. Samsung is producing such displays since last two three years from S6 edge and Note 7(Fireball, nickname… Read more »
