The OnePlus 7 is coming soon and the company CEO Pete Lau has confirmed some new information about the flagship smartphone. At the Mobile World Congress 2019 event, Lau confirmed that OnePlus 7 would not come with wireless charging support like rumours so far have suggested. In fact, Lau thinks that wireless charging is still "nascent technology" and that's the reason why that the upcoming OnePlus flagship aka OnePlus 7 will not support this feature. OnePlus CEO says that the proprietary charging technology which is called the Warp Charge is 'one of the best' technologies available in the industry to charge a smartphone. Lau also said that until wireless charging technology can charge smartphones quickly and without heating up OnePlus will not bring the technology to its phones. This probably means that at least the OnePlus 7 series which includes OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7T will not come packed with wireless charging support.
No Wireless Charging Support for OnePlus 7
Lau confirmed the new information about the wireless charging of the OnePlus 7 to CNET during the on-going Mobile World Congress 2019 event. He noted, "OnePlus charging is one of the best. Wireless charging is far inferior." Possibly on account of that Qualcomm has introduced Quick Charge for wireless power in order to allow fast charging on charging pads at MWC 2019 tech show.
OnePlus phones are very popular for its Dash charging technology, which is one of the fastest charging tech available in the industry right now. In the same interview, Lau said that the company is working on wireless charging keeping in mind that it can perform better without heating up. He, however, didn't reveal any further details when will get to see the first OnePlus phone with wireless charging support.
OnePlus 7: Expected Specifications and Features
OnePlus has already confirmed that the OnePlus 7 will come packed with Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset. We can also expect the OnePlus 7 to launch running on Android 9 Pie-based OxygenOS like all other OnePlus devices. Rumours suggest that the OnePlus 7 will come with triple cameras on the back panel and front selfie camera will use pop-up selfie technology like the latest Vivo V15 Pro and the upcoming Oppo F11 Pro. There's no report whether the pop-up selfie on the OnePlus 7 will sit on the right, left or left of the top edge.
At Mobile World Congress 2019 OnePlus showcased prototype of its 5G phone. But sadly the company covered the 5G phone inside a case surrounding all around the phone. The OnePlus 5G phone will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset paired with Qualcomm's own X50 modem to bring 5G connectivity to the device. OnePlus is expected to launch the 5G smartphone by the end of May this year and will price it between $200-$300 higher than the OnePlus 6T.
At the moment, we don't have the exact launch date of the OnePlus 7, however, it's expected to happen at the start of Q2 2019.
