As it promised a couple of months ago, Chinese handset maker OnePlus is now rolling out stable Android 9 Pie update to the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T. Do make a note that this is a stable update being rolled out in batches to all the OnePlus 5 and 5T users out there. To recall, OnePlus rolled out Android 9 Pie-based Open Beta update to both the smartphones just two weeks back. Yesterday, it released a bug fixing Open Beta update to both the phones alongside rolling out the stable build. Post the update, the OnePlus 5 and 5T smartphones will be pushed to OxygenOS 9.0.0 version- in-line with Android 9 version number. As noted, the update is rolled out in batches, so there are fewer chances of everyone getting it right now.

OxygenOS 9.0.0 for OnePlus 5 and 5T: What's New?

There has been a lot of anticipation from OnePlus fans on when the company will roll out the Android 9 Pie update to its 2017 smartphones. And finally, the day has arrived. Although it might be a bit delayed update, it's finally here and you can head over to System Updates system to check whether you've received it or not.

Talking about the features added by OxygenOS 9.0.0, it brings OnePlus' brand new interface which the company introduced with the OnePlus 6. In short, post the update, your OnePlus 5 or 5T will have all the functionalities of OnePlus 6 and 6T. With Android 9 Pie, the OnePlus 5 also gets its stock gesture navigation which Google introduced. The OnePlus 5T sports an 18:9 panel, so it'll take advantage of OnePlus' navigation gestures as well. The OnePlus 5T will also have the stock Pie navigation controls.

The update also brings December 2018 security patches along with various other new features and stability improvements. It carries Gaming Mode 3.0 which adds features such as text notification mode and notification for third-party calls. And finally, OnePlus 5 and 5T users can customise the Do Not Disturb mode. Lastly, going by the changelog, the camera app gets Google Lens integration.

How to Install Stable Android 9 Pie on OnePlus 5, 5T?

Moving onto the most important aspect: How can you get the update right away? Aforesaid, the OxygenOS 9.0.0 update has been pushed to the OnePlus 5 and 5T users in batches and OnePlus says "As always, this OTA will be incremental. The OTA will reach a small percentage of users today, and we'll begin a broader rollout in a few days." At the moment, it's unknown which countries will receive the update so that we can detail you the VPN process.

However, you can install any VPN application from the Google Play Store and connect to either Germany or Canada VPN. After connecting, head over to the System Updates section and check if there's an update. If yes, download it and install following the on-screen instructions.

Having said that, the OxygenOS 9.0.0 is a stable release, meaning if you're on the stable build, then you'll get the update first. If you're on the Open Beta programme, chances are you must've received the update last week itself.
