2018 has been a great year for HMD Global. The Finland based smartphone company launched a range of Nokia phones, the recent one being the Nokia 7.1. However, it seems like HMD is prepping to launch another phone to the Nokia fans. Although there are no official details about the phone, reports suggest that it could be the Nokia 8.1 Plus, which will succeed the recently launched Nokia 7.1. The Nokia 7.1 Plus hasn’t been launched in India yet. It looks like HMD Global could be skipping the 7.1 Plus and instead bring the Nokia 8.1 to India. The company took to Twitter and posted about the coming of a new phone to the country. HMD via Nokia Mobile India Twitter handle posted “The picture’s about to get rosy with an epic viewing experience. Get ready to #ExpectMore.”
Although the company didn’t specifically mention the name of the device, several media reports claim that the phone could be the Nokia 8.1. Meanwhile, the company is also said to be working on another premium phone, Nokia 9 PureView.
Nokia 8.1 May Launch in a Lush Red Color
“The picture’s about to get rosy with an epic viewing experience. Get ready to #ExpectMore” – this post indirectly indicates that the upcoming Nokia phone could be launching in Lush Red colour. The rumoured Nokia 8.1 could be an upgraded version of the Nokia 7.1. The Nokia 7.1, to recall, was launched with a 6.18-inch Full HD+ screen paired with PureDisplay technology. Comparatively, the Nokia 8.1 is said to come with a bigger and better screen in order to deliver an improved multimedia experience to the users. As of now, not much is known about Nokia 8.1.
Nokia 7.1: Specifications and Features
The Nokia 7.1 is the first Nokia phone to get a PureDisplay screen technology and the upcoming Nokia 8.1 is expected to be the second phone. Notably, the Nokia 8.1 is said to be the global version of Nokia X7 that was launched in China last month. As far as the specifications are concerned, the Nokia 7.1 sports a 5.84-inch FHD+ IPS LCD PureDisplay with a 19:9 aspect ratio and resolution of 2246x1080 p. On the hardware front, the Nokia phone is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 636 chipset paired with 3GB and 4GB. On the storage front, the Nokia 7.1 comes in two variants – one with 32GB of internal storage and the second one with 64GB of internal storage.
Both the options support storage expandability up to 400GB via microSD card. The Nokia 7.1 ships with Android 8.1 Oreo. The company says that like all other Nokia phones, this one will also be updated to Android 9 Pie soon. Although, the Pie rollout timeline is yet to be revealed by HMD. Other specifications include -- Dual rear camera setup with a primary sensor of 12MP with f/1.8 aperture and secondary sensor of 5MP. On the front, the phone includes an 8MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture. It is backed by a 3060mAh battery.
Nokia 8.1: Specifications and Features
Moving onto the Nokia 8.1, the phone sports a 6.18-inch Full HD+ display on the front with PureDisplay technology. It's powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 chipset, paired with up to 6GB of RAM. The Nokia X7 aka Nokia 8.1 rocks dual cameras of 12MP+13MP on the back, followed by a 20MP shooter on the front. It might run Android 9 Pie out of the box and rocks 3500mAh battery out of the box.
