MIUI 10 Based on Android 7.0 Nougat is Now Rolling Out to Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Users

Xiaomi recently confirmed that it would start rolling out MIUI 10 Stable update to 21 of its devices as part of the second batch rollout. As promised, the Chinese handset maker is now seeding the update to three smartphones in the list- Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro which is the company's latest launch and the Redmi Note 4/4X which are the smartphones from 2017. MIUI 10 stable update for the Redmi Note 6 Pro is based on Android 8.1 Oreo, while the same update for the Redmi Note 4 and 4X is based on Android 7.0 Nougat, which is rather disappointing to see. That said, MIUI 10 doesn't make you feel that you're using an older version of Android, but you'll surely miss out on features such as autofill passwords, smart text selection and so on.

Redmi Note 4 Gets Much-Awaited MIUI 10 Stable Update Based on Android Nougat

It's a little disappointing to see Xiaomi not releasing the MIUI 10 update for the Redmi Note 4 based on Android Oreo. But Xiaomi is known for doing such things. To recall, the Redmi Note 3 received MIUI 9 stable update earlier this year, but it was based on Android Marshmallow. The Redmi Note 3 will even receive the MIUI 10 Stable update, but again, it will be based on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow itself.

The same is continuing with the Redmi Note 4 and Redmi Note 4X this year. Launched back in January 2017, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 is the reason behind Xiaomi's stupendous success in the country. In a matter of six months, the company sold over five million units of Redmi Note 4 in the sub-continent. This allowed Xiaomi to replace Samsung at the top spot in the Indian smartphone market, which isn't a small feat by any means.

Xiaomi is known for rolling out MIUI updates even to smartphones released four years or three years ago, but the reality is those updates are based on older iterations of Android. The Redmi Note 3 and Redmi Note 4 will even receive MIUI 11 update next year, and of course, the update will be based on Android Marshmallow and Android Nougat respectively.

To recall, the Redmi Note 4 was released in India with MIUI 8-based on Android Marshmallow. So with MIUI 9 update late last year, Xiaomi bumped the Android version to Android 7.0 Nougat. Sadly, it could be the last Android iterative upgrade to the popular Xiaomi smartphone. The Redmi Note 4 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset and other Xiaomi smartphones with the same SoC such as the Redmi Note 5, Redmi Y2 and Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro are currently running Android 8.1 Oreo-based MIUI 10.

Having said that, the hardware is capable of running MIUI 10, but it's just that Xiaomi is not willing to upgrade it to Android Oreo. If you're a Redmi Note 4 user, watch out for an update to appear on your smartphone.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro Gets MIUI 10 Update

Xiaomi's latest launch, the Redmi Note 6 Pro, is also getting MIUI 10 stable update in countries where it was launched. Xiaomi is expected to launch the Redmi Note 6 Pro in India very soon and it might be running MIUI 10 out of the box in the sub-continent. The Redmi Note 6 Pro is expected to retail at the same Rs 14,999 price tag as the Redmi Note 5 Pro. Xiaomi might discontinue the Redmi Note 5 Pro once it launches the Redmi Note 6 Pro in India.
