According to a report from Research Firm GFK, Microsoft has been crowned as the third largest smartphone vendor in India with a market share of 12%, thanks to its acquisition of Nokia's mobile phone business. If you are wondering, Samsung is still reigning in the Indian market with a king sized share of 33%, while Micromax is standing firm at the second place with a market share of 18%. It is good to see a domestic manufacturer scale such heights in the constantly changing smartphone market.

Microsoft Windows Phone

If feature phones are introduced in the tally than Samsung's share drops to 25% with Nokia's share rising to 21%. Micromax is trailblazing with a minority at 13.5%. It is good to see smartphone vendors coming up with excellent budget Android devices, letting low-end users get a taste of the smartphone world without burning a hole in their pocket.

The report is based on actual sales numbers, which will shed all the other ambiguities. This data also depicts how Nokia (err.. Microsoft) is staging a good comeback in the smartphone market. If we sum up all the figures, the total market share of the top 3 manufacturers stands at 63% which means that another 30% of share at least is held by the other small domestic manufacturers. Lumia lineup has been selling quite well so Microsoft should be very cautious on how they handle the rebranding process of Lumia devices.
