Micromax targets selfie-loving Indians, launches Canvas Selfie 2 and Canvas Selfie 3

An year ago, Micromax launched their first selfie-focussed smartphone, the Micromax Canvas Selfie with dual 13-megapixel cameras, one at the front and the other at the back. Now, the biggest Indian smartphone brand has launched not one, but two selfie-focussed smartphones in the country, the Micromax Canvas Selfie 2 and the Micromax Canvas Selfie 3.

The Micromax Canvas Selfie 2, which is priced at Rs. 5,999, is an entry-level Android 5.0 Lollipop-based smartphone that has a 5-megapixel camera on the rear and a 5-megapixel camera on the front. Other specifications include a 1.3GHz quad-core processor, 1GB RAM, and 8GB of internal storage space, and a 2,000 mAh battery. Connectivity features include two SIM card slots that are compatible with 3G networks, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.0, GPS, and a microUSB v2.0 port.

Coming to the slightly higher-priced Micromax Canvas Selfie 3, it obviously comes with improved features, be it a higher resolution 4.8-inch AMOLED display that is protected by Gorilla Glass 3, or higher-resolution 8-megapixel cameras on the front and the rear. Both these cameras are accompanied by LED flash lights for better images even in dimly lit conditions.

  • 8MP primary camera, autofocus, LED flash, 8MP secondary camera with LED flash
  • Dual-SIM, 3G, Wi-FI b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.0, GPS, and microUSB port
  • 2,300 mAh battery

Connectivity features include two SIM card slots, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.0, GPS, and a microUSB port. Moreover, Micromax is also bundling  a Bluetooth-enabled selfie stick with the Canvas Selfie 3. It is expected to be priced above the Micromax Canvas Selfie 2, but its price hasn't been revealed yet. Micromax has announced that the device will go on sale starting the end of this month.

Competing these devices are the company's own YU Yuphoria and the YU Yureka, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer's Lenovo A7000, and the Microsoft Lumia 535. Most of the smartphone brands are offering higher resolution front-facing cameras due to the selfie craze that has increased among consumers lately. Moreover, they also offer beauty mode as well as self-timer feature for improving the selfie capturing experience.
