Real-World Applications
According to Meta, these models are being utilised for practical applications, such as Oracle's development of aircraft maintenance tools that improve diagnostic speed and accuracy. Scale AI is fine-tuning Llama to assist in national security missions, including operational planning and adversary analysis. Meanwhile, Lockheed Martin has integrated Llama into its AI Factory to accelerate projects in code generation and data analysis.
Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure are also supporting government needs by hosting Llama on their secure cloud solutions for handling sensitive data. Additionally, IBM's watsonx solution is bringing Llama to national security agencies in their self-managed data centers and clouds, Meta said.

Commitment to Ethical AI Development
"These kinds of responsible and ethical uses of open source AI models like Llama will not only support the prosperity and security of the United States, they will also help establish US open source standards in the global race for AI leadership," Meta highlighted.
"As an American company, and one that owes its success in no small part to the entrepreneurial spirit and democratic values the United States upholds, Meta wants to play its part to support the safety, security and economic prosperity of America – and of its closest allies too," Meta added.
Meta emphasised the importance of establishing high standards for openness and accountability in AI development, aiming to create a robust global open-source standard.
The initiative also seeks to promote the ethical deployment of AI in national security, guided by international laws and principles. Meta further explained that the public sector stands to benefit from Llama's capabilities, with Deloitte working to implement solutions that enhance community services across various sectors.

Meta Llama Models
The Llama models are "open source," meaning the technology can be freely copied and distributed by other developers, companies and governments. This move from Meta is an exception to its "acceptable use policy," which had previously prohibited the use of its AI software for "military, warfare, nuclear industries," and similar purposes.
Through collaborations with organisations like the US State Department and UNESCO, Meta said it aims to address societal challenges while embedding democratic values in the digital infrastructure.
