US Fiber-optic internet service provider (ISP) Lumos announced its expansion into Summit County, Ohio, with an investment of nearly USD 110 million to build over 1,400 miles of its fiber-optic network. This initiative aims to provide homes and small businesses with access to high-speed internet, supporting remote work, telemedicine, and entertainment needs, Lumos said on Wednesday.

Lumos Expands into Summit County
This marks Lumos' second major investment in Ohio, following a USD 230 million project in the Mahoning Valley, announced in July 2024. Lumos said residents in Summit County will benefit from symmetrical upload and download speeds, enhancing online reliability and user experience.
"As we reach new communities in Summit County, Lumos' mission remains: to empower people with the speed, reliability, and innovation that only fiber-optic technology can provide," said Lumos CEO Brian Stading. He highlighted the importance of high-speed internet in fostering a digital society and improving quality of life.

Engineering Underway
Engineering work for this new investment is already underway, and construction will begin shortly. Lumos added that residents will receive updates by mail as work progresses. In its second Ohio expansion, Lumos will build over 1,400 miles of fiber across 15 communities in the Greater Akron area.

According to the official release, Lumos provides 100 percent fiber-optic internet, total-home Wi-Fi, voice, and streaming services to more than 375,000 homes and businesses across Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Ohio, and Kentucky.
