Remember the transaction between Reliance Jio and music giant Saavn which happened back in March? Well, we now have the first signs of this transaction as the telco will soon be rebranding its music application- JioMusic as JioSaavn, creating the country's largest platform for music. Right now, we don't have any information on when the rebranding will come to effect, but Jio is offering JioMusic and Saavn has its own app in the Google Play Store. Maybe after this rebranding, Saavn will pull down the application from the Play Store and Apple's App Store respectively, but nothing is confirmed at the moment. Also, some users are reporting that when they log into the Saavn app using their Jio mobile number, they're getting a free subscription for 90 days.
JioMusic Will Be JioSaavn Going Forward
For the unaware, Mukesh Ambani-owned telecom service provider Reliance Jio has its own music streaming service dubbed JioMusic. All the Jio prepaid, postpaid customers with an active plan can enjoy free subscription of JioMusic. Very soon, JioMusic will be rebranded as JioSaavn and the entire music portfolio of Saavn will be made available on the JioSaavn.
As mentioned above, once the rebranding goes live Saavn might pull down its application from the Google Play Store. But again, we're not sure about this development. In other news, we have received some interesting information. Some Jio mobile phone users are noticing that Saavn is providing free 90 days 'Saavn Pro' subscription on the first login. Here's how you can check yours: Download the Saavn application from Google Play Store or Apple App Store and register with your Jio mobile number. After registering, check whether you've received 90 days of Saavn Pro subscription. Sadly, we were not able to test this out, but some users on the web reported that they've received a free subscription for 90 days.
At the moment, Saavn is offering services to both standard and Pro customers. With Saavn Pro, users can download an unlimited number of songs, while standard will just be able to stream songs on the application.
Reliance Jio-Saavn Transaction Details
To recall, back in March 2018, Reliance Jio and Saavn announced a strategic transaction, under which the telco's JioMusic service will be combined with that of Saavn. Back then, it was said that the combined entity's valuation would be over USD 1 Billion. Furthermore, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), the parent company of Jio confirmed that it would invest USD 100 million in the combined entity of JioMusic and Saavn to help the platform grow.
Talking about JioMusic, it has been the country's fastest growing music streaming app for over 80 consecutive weeks. And it's not surprising as Reliance Jio is the fastest growing telecom service provider in the world. When the transaction announced in March, Jio had little over 200 million subscribers, but now, the telco has over 250 million subscribers. This essentially means that the subscriber base of JioMusic should've grown the last few months.
