Reliance Jio Postpaid Plan of Rs 199 Falling Short as Compared to Postpaid Offerings from Other Telcos

Follow Us

Reliance Jio has been the top telecom operator when it comes to prepaid offerings and a large portfolio of apps. With its all 4G network, attractive bundled offerings and cheap data plans, the telecom operator has attracted a lot of prepaid subscribers. However, there is one plan from Reliance Jio which hasn’t seen a lot of takers and it is the Rs 199 postpaid plan. This plan from the telco has been lost in the sea of other plans which the incumbent telcos offer and for all the right reasons. The plan fails to match up the benefits which the competing telcos are offering to their postpaid subscribers. Here is a more detailed take on this.

Reliance Jio Rs 199 Postpaid Plan: Details and Competition

Just like it is the case with Reliance Jio’s prepaid strategy, the telecom operator wanted to conquer the postpaid segment with its uber-cheap offering. As such, the telco launched the Rs 199 JioPostpaid plan for its users. In the Rs 199 postpaid plan from Reliance Jio, the users can enjoy 25GB data, free unlimited calling, 100SMS per day and complimentary subscription to Reliance Jio’s host of applications. After the exhaustion of the said 25GB limit in a month, the subscribers will be charged at Rs 20 per GB. Apart from the Rs 199 postpaid plan, Reliance Jio offers no other postpaid plan.

Now onto the part to discuss how well the JioPostpaid plan fares against the postpaid plans of other telecom operators. Now, when the JioPostpaid plan was first launched it was considered as a game changer in the industry, the rates which Reliance Jio was offering were impressive as compared to other telecom operators. However, it has been time since Reliance Jio launched its postpaid offer, and the market has adjusted. The incumbent telcos have drastically revamped their postpaid portfolios to make their plans more attractive, and they have bundled these plans with more and more freebies.

Why Reliance Jio Postpaid Plans Fail to Leave a Mark

Airtel in its Infinity postpaid plans is offering Netflix and Amazon Prime memberships along with Airtel TV subscription, handset protection and more. On the same lines, Vodafone’s RED postpaid plans are offering Amazon Prime membership, Vodafone Play subscription, Mobile Shield and more. Now even though these plans start retailing at a higher price as compared to the Reliance Jio postpaid plan, they will still be able to retain the postpaid customers simply because the postpaid customer is stickier as compared to the prepaid customer and is likely to be more loyal.

In the transformed telecom market also, the content offerings have come to mean a lot and in such a scenario, merely shipping data and calling does not cut it for a lot of users when it comes to Reliance Jio postpaid plans. That is the reason why the Reliance Jio Rs 199 postpaid plan lags behind the other postpaid offerings in the market. The apparent chasm between the incumbents’ postpaid plans and Reliance Jio’s postpaid plan is because of the lack of choices and lack of freebies and bundled offerings which Reliance Jio and other telcos offer.

A Curious Case of Airtel Postpaid Plans

To give you a clear picture of how actually the Reliance Jio plans fall short in front of other postpaid plans, it is crucial to take a look at Airtel postpaid plans. Airtel offers a lot of freebies with its plans like Netflix subscription, Amazon Prime subscription. With this, Airtel postpaid plans also offer Airtel TV Premium and ZEE5 subscription as well. On the other hand, while Reliance Jio’s plans are priced less, they don’t ship with any attractions which don’t help the case of the Rs 199 postpaid plan.
