iColo Deploys Solar Panels at Two Data Center Campuses in Kenya
Data center infrastructure provider iColo announced that it has successfully added and commissioned over 650 kilowatts (kW) of new solar installations across its two data center campuses in Nairobi and Mombasa, Kenya. This expansion supports iColo's commitment to sustainability and enhances the green credentials of its facilities, the company said in a statement on Tuesday.

New Solar Capacity

iColo reported that over 450 kW of this new solar capacity will be available at its Nairobi campus, which connects over 60 national and global networks. Nearly 200 kW of the remaining capacity will be utilised at iColo's growing Miritini Mombasa campus, the official release said.

Sustainability Commitment

"Our solar investments are driven not only by our sustainability goals as a company but also by our commitment to supporting our customers' renewable energy targets. As we further expand, Mombasa's leading global interconnection hub, which has more than 85 network providers, will benefit from the campus’ expanded sustainable energy source," said iColo. "We will continue to invest in renewable energy to keep up with our power consumption for the foreseeable future."

Upcoming Data Centers and Solar Goals

iColo plans to meet 25 percent of its facilities’ power needs with solar energy in the long term and is exploring additional solar installations across its campuses. The company currently has three data centers in its master plan, including a captive substation, and is expected to consume over 20 megawatts (MW) at full capacity.

The company's second Nairobi data center, NBO2, with a planned IT load of 6.5 MW, is expected to launch in Q3 2025.
