After announcing the Ascend P7 earlier this year, Huawei has finally launched the selfie-centric smartphone in India today. Although, sometime back, it was also listed on Indian e-commerce sites, for Rs 27,999, but Huawei has officially launched the Ascend P7 in India for Rs 24,799.

Commenting at the launch, Allen Wang, Head, Consumer Business Group, Huawei Telecommunications (India), said, "Huawei’s Premium ‘P’ series is one of the most popular series from Huawei’s next generation smartphone league. Earlier in 2014, we introduced a marquee product named Ascend P6 that received excellent response from Indian consumers. With the launch of Ascend P7 in India, we endeavor to strengthen our connect with the young and tech savvy consumers by redefining excellence in craftsmanship and camera experience. The Ascend P7 has already received very positive response globally and we hope to replicate the global success in India." he said.

The Ascend P7 is the heir to the Ascend P6, which was launched last year. The Ascend P7 is more focused on the front camera than its predecessor. It has an 8-megapixel front shooter and a 13-megapixel rear camera.

The smartphone comes with a 5-inch full HD 1080p display with a pixel density of 445ppi and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. It is powered by a 1.8GHz HiSilicon Krin 910T quad-core Cortex-A9 processor coupled with Mali 450 GPU and 2GB of RAM. As an added bonanza, the rear of the device is also covered by Gorilla Glass 3 to protect it from everyday depreciation.

The Ascend P7 has 16GB of internal storage, which is further expandable up to 32GB via microSD card. It runs Android 4.4 KitKat with Huawei’s Emotion 2.3 UI on top.

In terms of connectivity, it includes 4G LTE ( Not the 4G TD-LTE Band 40 which is currently available in India, but the FD-LTE band 3 which will soon launch in India), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC. It is backed by a 2500mAh battery, which is touted by Huawei to deliver up to 14 hours of talk time.

Given the price, the Ascend P7 will rival against HTC Desire 820 and Gionee Elife E7.
