Are you looking for new internet plans? Choosing one might be more complicated than what you think of. Mostly, the plans are priced as per the internet speed and capacity you use. This might urge you to ask the question of how much internet speed do you need?

Most internet service providers have a guide detailing the benefits offered by their various plans. However, some listings might upsell you claiming to offer faster speeds than what you need. Here, we will help you understand how much internet you need to pay for. Finally, each user will need different speeds and capacities.

What Speed You Might Need?

As per the FCC, anything that is faster than 25 Mbps is considered as an advanced service but it is closer to the minimum. It was asked to raise the bar to 100 Mbps for broadband. Any service you use on the internet, you will want faster speeds than 25 Mbps. With the increased media consumption, it makes sense to choose for some speed closer to 100 Mbps.

Do keep in mind that an internet plan assuring to offer fast internet doesn’t guarantee to provide fast internet speeds. The internet speed you experience can slow down due to network congestion, interference from nearby networks, poor router management and more.

How Much Internet You Use?

As of now, many people are working from home, which translates to more internet usage than ever before. If you work from home, play online games or stream a lot of HD videos, then you will need more internet and a faster speed than others who would just browse the internet. For instance, it is recommended to have 10 to 20 Mbps speed for video calling, 25 to 35 Mbps speed for online gaming and 35 Mbps speed for 4K streaming.

Number Of People Or Devices

This is one of the important factors to look out for when you are searching for an internet plan. A standard household might have two to four people with 10 to 15 devices including laptops, smartphones, gaming consoles, smart TVs and other gadgets) connected to the internet. If you use all these devices consistently, then the internet speed should cover all of these.

Data Caps

The most overlooked factor is the data caps. All internet plans come with a speed cap. You can use your internet for activities such as video streaming and online gaming that will consume a lot of data. Once the speed cap is reached, the speed will drop to as low as 10 Mbps. Later on, until the pack is renewed, you can use it only for low internet usage, which could be painfully slow.

So, keep these factors in mind before choosing an internet plan.
