Chinese brand Honor yesterday at the CES 2018 event announced that its latest mid-range smartphone, the Honor 7X will soon receive Face Unlock feature. Honor will release an OTA updated in the coming days for the Honor 7X which will add the Face Unlock feature. The Face Unlock feature on the Honor 7X will work with the help of software, and the 8MP front-facing camera as the device doesn't have any dedicated Facial Recognition hardware like the Apple iPhone X.

However, Honor did not reveal when the update will hit the Honor 7X. We are assuming that Honor may include the feature in the Android 8.0 Oreo-based EMUI update, which is expected to hit the Honor 7X in the first half of 2018. The Honor View 10 also has a dedicated AI-powered Facial Recognition system, which helps in viewing notifications on the lock screen. Hopefully, the same feature will be added to the Honor 7X as well in the coming days.

Face Unlock feature is all the rage ever since OnePlus announced its Face Unlock feature with the OnePlus 5T. OnePlus' face unlock feature is not innovative, but the lightning-quick unlocking speed is something which impressed consumers.

At the CES 2018, Honor said that the View 10 and Honor 7X would hit the US market very soon with impressive price tags. Also, a special Red Edition of the Honor 7X was announced too. Honor will be releasing the Honor 7X Limited Edition Red in few regions such as the U.S., the U.K, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and India before February 14. For the first 100 Honor 7X Red Edition buyers, the company would be giving a free Honor-Monster AM15 headphones.

Honor is known for adding software features after releasing the handset. Recently, a software update released for the Honor 7X enabled Gyroscope sensor on the smartphone, which helps the users to use the smartphone with VR handsets. The Face Unlock feature is already implemented by various brands such as Oppo, Vivo, and OnePlus. In 2018, we might see more smartphone brands implementing the Face Unlock to enhance the user experience.
