The Telecom Regulatory authority of India (Trai) introduced the new mandate which changed a lot of pricing and regulatory measures for both consumers, DTH providers and the cable operators. The consumers were forced to migrate to the new Trai based plans whereas DTH operators had to comply with the new norms. Dish TV was one of the first of the many DTH operators to announce its channel packs and their pricing, and soon after that, other DTH providers followed. The operator has recently announced its new combo and add-on packs as well. It is worth noting that although subscribers are free to choose all of their channels under the new scheme by Trai, the add-on or combo packs which are present in the DTH providers’ portfolio will help them make an easier choice and further they will be able to enjoy much more channels at a discounted price at times.

The last update from Dish TV had noted that it would complete the migration process for all its subscribers by February 7th. However, Trai has pointed out that almost 40% of the total cable TV subscribers have migrated to the new Trai based plans. As per the latest direction by Trai, the date has also been extended to March 31, 2019, for the subscribers who have not yet made their channel selections. As such, there is now ample time for the subscribers to make the switch. Another notification by Trai has directed the DTH operators to continue with the long duration packs, meaning that now Dish TV will also have to continue providing services to the long duration subscribers who have not yet made their channel selections.
