Brazilian telecommunications service provider Claro is celebrating its 20th anniversary and one year of 5G implementation with the rollout of new 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) in select cities in Brazil. With this launch, the company became the first in the country to roll out residential internet plans using the 5G mobile network as fixed wireless access (FWA), delivering speeds of up to 1Gbps.

Claro 5G+: Brazil’s First 5G Fixed Wireless Access
Claro’s new 5G FWA service, Claro 5G+, is now available to customers in the residential segment and small and medium-sized businesses. Claro 5G+ service is initially available in select Claro stores situated in Sao Paulo, Campinas, Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre, and Brasilia. Claro plans to expand the 5G+ services to other regions in the future.
5G+ Frequencies and Wi-Fi 6 Modem
The 5G+ service offered by Claro utilises frequencies in the 2.3 GHz and 3.5 GHz bands, ensuring seamless navigation and optimal performance within the 5G network. Claro’s new 5G modem with Wi-Fi 6 Technology, provided by Intelbras and featuring Qualcomm’s chipset, acts as the gateway to this FWA Service. The Modem picks up the 5G signal and distributes it to all devices within the customer’s home or office.

To experience the 5G+ network with fixed wireless access, customers must reside within an area covered by 5G and subscribe to one of the new plans while acquiring Claro’s Wi-Fi 6-enabled modem.
